Mostly visited three current exhibitions, Olafsson, Expo 67 and Taryn Simon. Wonderful stuff, well-presented. A thoroughly enjoyable morning. The museum is small enough to fit in a half day and well l...  more »

Super Museum to discover the contemporary art. The exhibits are varied with each others. Obviously, great care is applied to the selection of works and artists. A 'must'.

This is a very small museum; it's easy to see it all in a single visit. But we did not find much that was worth seeing. At the time we were there, there was a special exhibit that took up most of the ...  more »

A very small museum, but the space is really cool (almost an art piece in its own right). Unless any particular piece stops you in your tracks for a while, the whole exhibit can be viewed in well under an hour. Not my favourite of all Montreal museums, but I did find some thought provoking pieces even despite not caring for the conceptual art.

Very interesting place, loved the pieces they had on display. The work is very creative and different from regular museums or art galleries.

It was a rather quick walk through for myself (only took an hour or so), and it's best if there aren't any school tours because kids are obnoxious and they crowd the gallery. I definitely would not say I have a particular interest in modern art, but it is always interesting to see what people have been inspired to do. This gallery provides a generous space for a limited amount of exhibits, which can be good and bad, depending on your perspective. There were some exhibits entirely in French (descriptions and labels) so as a visiting Torontonian Anglophone, it was difficult for me to enjoy or understand.

A lot of interesting themes with a diversity pf artist every 2 or 3 months in contemporary context

Thoughtfully curated exhibits, enormous collection. Can easily spend 3-4 hours here. And the majority of the museum is free!

Where to stay in Montreal

If beautiful architecture and views over the water appeal, stay in the historic neighborhood of Vieux Montreal (Old Montreal), where you'll be a stone's throw from the best attractions in the city. If modern convenience is more important to you, look for accommodations in the downtown neighborhood of Centre-Ville, or head a bit farther out to the artsy district of Plateau Mont-Royal. LGBTI visitors might want to consider staying in The Village, Montreal's famously progressive hub of gay and lesbian culture.
