  • I always visit MAC when in Montreal. The exhibits are always thought provoking and the permanent collection has a wide variety of media and subjects. A great way to spend a couple of hours in Montreal...  more »
  • The Museum of contemporary art (MAC) of Montreal offers exhibitions that allow us to live or even disconcerting unexpected experiences. Some will love it, others not. Among ongoing exhibitions, I enjoyed especially the one on the work of Olafur Eliasson. The MAC, which could be defined as a place of exploration and innovation in art, plays an important role on the regional and national scene, among other things, by its mission development and education in contemporary art. Because the property is located in the entertainment district, we can take the opportunity to then attend a show (theatre, concerts, etc.), to visit art galleries located near the Museum, or to eat in one of the restaurants in the area (the Mac or other).

  • Very disappointed with this. If you are going to an art museum go to the Museum of Fine Art that is amazing. This was a waste of time!  more »

  • A very small museum, but the space is really cool (almost an art piece in its own right). Unless any particular piece stops you in your tracks for a while, the whole exhibit can be viewed in well under an hour. Not my favourite of all Montreal museums, but I did find some thought provoking pieces even despite not caring for the conceptual art.
  • Very interesting place, loved the pieces they had on display. The work is very creative and different from regular museums or art galleries.
  • It was a rather quick walk through for myself (only took an hour or so), and it's best if there aren't any school tours because kids are obnoxious and they crowd the gallery. I definitely would not say I have a particular interest in modern art, but it is always interesting to see what people have been inspired to do. This gallery provides a generous space for a limited amount of exhibits, which can be good and bad, depending on your perspective. There were some exhibits entirely in French (descriptions and labels) so as a visiting Torontonian Anglophone, it was difficult for me to enjoy or understand.
  • A lot of interesting themes with a diversity pf artist every 2 or 3 months in contemporary context
  • Thoughtfully curated exhibits, enormous collection. Can easily spend 3-4 hours here. And the majority of the museum is free!
