  • Where: Le Magasin Général du Vieux-Montréal - Montreal, Quebec What: A chic restaurant in the heart of Old Port. How was it: The decor inside the restaurant is nice. Actually it's attached to a store that sells nifty gifts. We ended up purchasing a keychain holder for our home from all the places we've travelled. The restaurant is nice, the service could be a little quicker but the food is good. Our timing was good enough that someone was playing the piano as we were eating. Grade: Eli = 4, Serge = 4 Recommend: We like it, it's one of the better restaurants in the Old Port.
  • I feel I should warn others away from this café. A few notable things: we ordered three bottles of beer to begin with but they were somehow all out so we got sangria which was just watered down orange juice with white wine. Not good. They served us MOULDY bread with our brie. We only ordered the brie to begin with because the restaurant has the cheapest liquor license available which obligates customers to order a non dessert item if they order alcohol. The service was nice but completely forgot to bring us our desserts. Left feeling very ripped off and dissatisfied. Never again.
  • love love love this place. I have been here 3 times in the past 2 months because i just love it. There is a pianist playing there everyday from 12pm. The food and coffee is really good as well. Try the melted brie cheese and bread dip with sun-dried tomatoes. I will be back soon for sure.
  • Don't get the hype. Maybe the brunch or coffee and pastries is good but the dinner was awful. Got the Mac n cheese had 0 flavour. I couldn't finish it. I thought I was the only one, but another guy sitting at the table across couldn't finish his either despite adding so much salt n pepper to it. My partner got the pizza the flavour wasn't too bad but the crust was rock hard you could not eat it. Sadly I would not return.
  • I don't often rave (see my other reviews) but this place is great. Very friendly service, on a cold sunny day the tables by the windows are very warm. Nice view of the old port, science museum, pavilions. Outdoor seating on warm days. Restored old stone building with big Windows. Food is delicious, the gauffres are special, the smoked salmon is very tasty and soft. Coffee is great, not sure if it's a normal thing for Montreal but an unsweetened moka cappuccino is a blessing, so hard to find and worth ordering seconds.
