Atwater Market, Montreal

4.4
Opened in 1933, Atwater Market continues to serve as the city's premier destination for fresh produce. Take time to appreciate the market's construction and art-deco style before heading in to see vendors selling fine foods, baked goods, meats, fish, and fruits and vegetables year-round. The market is renowned for its selection of butchers and delicatessens. Because items are high quality here, finding a bargain may be quite a challenge. • Lovely market although a little quieter in the winter and the immediate week after Christmas. Lots of inspiring foodstuffs like fresh meats and pastas. Pastries looked amazing at various shops. Beauti...  more »
  • Complete market where you will find all kinds of products: meat, cheese, vegetables, fine and other groceries. The stalls are extremely clean and the proposed provisions are of great quality. Finally, the proposed prices are quite high. Do visit or shop.

  • This is a fantastic market. It’s not as big as Jean Talon but absolutely has everything that you need. Fresh fruits and vegetables and meats and fish fresh ready to cook but also lots of prepared items as well. A tiny bit pricey but absolutely well worth it.
  • Always love visiting Atwater Market. We just purchased our Christmas tree there, they had a machine to tie it up and they strapped it to the roof of our car. It made the process so easy for us and my wife & son were so happy we got to bring home a tree for Christmas. Our first in Montreal!!
  • A great farmers market with all sorts of great produce from Quebec. Several fresh butcher's, cheese shops and bakeries. Lots of farm fresh vegetables and of course plenty of Canadian maple syrup.
  • Nice ambience. Interesting foods to see and discover but the prices are very high. Super C is close by and their prices on fruits and veggies etc are about 50% lower. Smaller than Jean Talon market but nice location near Lionel Groups metro station and bike path along the canal.
  • Smaller than Jean Talon's market, but still has a great range of fresh and specialty products. It is also a good place to buy flowers, as they are cheap and beautiful. There many restaurants there and other small boutiques. The market is located near Atwater channel, and it is much easier to get there by bike, by foot or by public transportation than by car.

Where to stay in Montreal

If beautiful architecture and views over the water appeal, stay in the historic neighborhood of Vieux Montreal (Old Montreal), where you'll be a stone's throw from the best attractions in the city. If modern convenience is more important to you, look for accommodations in the downtown neighborhood of Centre-Ville, or head a bit farther out to the artsy district of Plateau Mont-Royal. LGBTI visitors might want to consider staying in The Village, Montreal's famously progressive hub of gay and lesbian culture.
