St. John's Anglican Church, Lunenburg

(4.6/5 based on 240+ reviews on the web)
Visit St. John's Anglican Church, Canada’s second oldest church of English origin. Constructed in 1753 in the carpenter gothic architectural style, the church's exterior consists of almost all white brick walls, with black accents outlining the doors, windows, central bell tower, and spires. During 2001 the church suffered from a blaze, but thankfully it has since been fully restored. Inside, find a wooden, pyramid-shaped roof sheltering wooden pews, which survived the fire. Stained glass windows, which allow natural light to fill the interior, also survived the 2001 inferno. With our international travel planner, Lunenburg attractions like St. John's Anglican Church can be center stage of your vacation plans, and you can find out about other attractions like it, unlike it, near it, and miles away.

  • This church was restored after a fire about 15 years ago and it is magnificent. The work that went in to this church is breathtaking.  more »
  • One of my favorite things to photography are church steeples and spires. St John's definitely is added to my collection.  more »
  • Visiting St John's was a great experience. I my self am not particularly religious, but the beauty of the architecture and the story behind it makes for a great visit!  more »

  • One of must-see churches in Canada. Spectacular and memorable!
  • Gorgeous church inside and out. Unique exterior, with a gothic style tower, a little green space outside with a monument and historic Jessen Bell, and a nearby geocache! Beautiful rich interior. Rebuilt after a fire in 2001
  • Those volunteers(?) are very helpful to provide information. The church was rebuilt after a recent fire, not authentic. However , a good drop by in the south part of Nova Scotia crazy car trip.
  • Beautiful and historic. One of the oldest Anglican churches in the new world.
  • Beautiful church that features 2 Sunday services and a very friendly lady who told us all about the church's history and it's rebuilding.
