Peyto Lake, Lake Louise
(4.9/5 based on 1,800+ reviews on the web)
The strikingly blue glacier-fed waters of Peyto Lake feature mesmerizing color caused by tiny particles of the rock the glacier brings forth when it "flows" in summer. From the lake, you can hike to Bow Summit--the highest point in the Canadian Rockies--and take in views from a viewing platform. If you have mobility issues, you can park closer to the viewing platform. Don't forget your camera. Put Peyto Lake into our Lake Louise vacation route planner and find out what's close by, where to stay, and where to head next.

  • Along the Icefields Parkway on your way you will pass directly at PEYTO Lake. An approximately 10 minute walk leads to a viewpoint from which you can perfectly see the Lake. Very well attended in the summer, but the look remains terrific!

  • A short, but fairly steep climb from the car park to the look-out point. We went in July and it was heaving with tourists, but so worth it. The view over the lake is breath-taking.
