“To preserve the past for present and future generations in Canada South”

OUR HISTORY:

Our museum began as the Historic Vehicle Society of Ontario in 1954 with 5 members attending the first meeting. In 1959 it received its charter as a charitable organization from the Ontario government to preserve and display our Canadian automotive heritage. In 1973 it purchased what is now 100 acres and expanded to become The Canadian Transportation Museum & Heritage Village. It finally had a permanent home for its constantly expanding collection. We have grown considerably over the years, with a major expansion in 2000, to become the great museum that we are today. We have one of the finest collections of historic and antique cars in Canada South, most of them owned by the museum. We also have the only EMS museum in Canada. In our village, we have over 20 historic buildings, originating from various areas of Essex County. We conduct many automotive museum and village tours on a daily basis and we see thousands of school children attend the village every year to be a “Pioneer for a Day”. Our goal is for the children to have fun and learn, and remember the day for many years to come, as our education program is second to none. As well as our museum, the village, the EMS museum, and the education program, we have many diverse and interesting special events throughout the year.

  • We go to different events here every year. Flea markets, car shows, and a bunch of different stuff. Stopped in for breakfast recently and it was good. I also like see the old buildings in the village, there is so much history there. Worth checking it out.
  • Welp, we went. Tuesdays museum not open , but the diner is till 2. Entrance 2 people $22 if we come back tomorrow. Very, very confusing who's open and who's closed. Unfortunate as there were folks from the states there who were as confused as us!! Yikes. sad....very sad.
  • Pretty neat little museum lots of stuff to look at and a great venue for a wedding/party the 50s diner as well looked amazing I hope to return again with more friends and see what else there is too visit
  • Cafeteria like but good food and always different events going on. Friendly employees.
  • Looks like a great place. But, we drove 3 hours and was told it was closed. Because there wasn't enough staff to operate the museum or villiage, due to a flea market. Not impressed as we have been waiting all summer to go. Paid 60.00 in gas to drive here. Probably will not do the trip again.
