St George's Anglican Cathedral, Kingston

(50 reviews on the web)
Religious Site Tourist Spot
As the mother church for the Anglican Diocese of Ontario, St. George's contains the 'cathedra' or Bishop's chair, the symbol of his leadership.

First and foremost, St. George's Cathedral is a centre of worship, and is frequently used for major religious events for both Anglican and ecumenical gatherings.

In addition, it is used for both state and civic affairs. For many years Royal Military College cadets and other military groups have marched into St. George's for worship on special occasions.

Because of its fine acoustics, musical concerts are frequently held here.

St. George's is an important tourist attraction in Kingston, and is visited annually by thousands of people from all over the world.

  • St George's Cathedral is beautiful architecture. It separates itself from the rest of the buildings in the area. Make sure you visit on a sunday and visit the mass! Its really really nice! :)  more »

  • We have visited this cathedral for services and also for the free lunchtime concerts. The concerts are of very high quality . The choir is very good . Certainly a very good place to visit.
  • Good people
  • You will notice that with this style and its domes you wouldn't know at the first glance it's the Cathedral, but rather a hotel of the secular power. A nice visit to do also when you parking in the city center in the parking lot behind City Hall, you can get there on foot, quietly, do the shopping on the side of Princess Street, stroll on the lake front, and make your cruise to the thousand islands.
