  • Great place to visit during the Fall. It is really impressive to watch the boat cross the station. The staff have been very friendly about explaining the origin of the station (more than a 100 years old!). With the color of the fall, this site is amazing! Unless you bring a book or something to do while sitting there, you will have done all there is to do pretty quickly.
  • Beautiful little place, fishing down below, rock climbing at the bottom as well if you bring your own kit, walk across the closed locks all you want
  • Beautiful area to sit down, relax and watch the boats go by. Also, you get to meet lots of friendly people while you're there.
  • We have been spending the last few days visiting the locks along the Rideau River. Great history and fun time fishing. Always clean and friendly.
  • This is a "hidden gem"! You could spend hours here during the boating months, watching the boats go through the multiple locks and walking across the tops of the gates and down the stairs to the river and cliffs. I also see trains going overhead and walk to the falls. I also enjoy going to the boardwalk along the wide part of the river above the locks and watching the kids fishing. The grass is lush here and you can walk in your bare feet. There are family celebrations nearly every time I have been there and it just has a nice feel to it.

Where to stay in Kingston

The most desirable accommodations in Kingston line the waterfront in the city's downtown region, offering views over the wide St. Lawrence River. If you want to immerse yourself in the city's hippest scene, look slightly west to the area around Queen's University, where you'll also enjoy easy access to some of Kingston's most pleasant parks. Those hoping to take some road trips out of the city should consider staying at one of the many motels and guesthouses along Princess Street--there, you're perfectly placed to hit the road and explore the region.
