Specialty Museum
Gain some insight into life behind bars at Correctional Service of Canada Museum, located across from Kingston's penitentiary. Housed within the former warden's quarters, the museum displays improvised weapons, tools, and other items created by prisoners themselves with the most minimal of supplies. Former prison guards guide you through the exhibits, telling you stories of elaborate escape plans and contraband operations. Photographs, replicas, and other displays deepen your understanding of what life here was like, for both the guards and the inmates. • Tours cost $35/person and last 90 minutes. Prison opened in 1835. There's talk of ripping out the back part of the museum & building condos & a sailing club, so go soon.  more »
  • Our whole family found this museum interesting. And the gift shop was fun for our youngest. Getting there on the red trolley tour is part of the fun of course.  more »

  • Very cool. A must if you're planning on going to the penitentiary tour. Tons of weapons confiscated from prisoners. It's located in the wardens house across the street
  • Very informative and extremely fun. Great place to come to when on a trip in Kingston. Staff that work there are extremely knowledgeable and helpful.
  • Some good information here. Some of the prisoners contraptions are wild. Good addition to kingston pen tour.
  • Very interesting museum. Museum about history of prison.
  • Pretty good museum. Takes around an hour to get through everything. Run by volunteers. No cost but donations welcome. Definitely worth it if you're already in Kingston. This isn't the penitentiary tour but rather a museum located in the old Warden's house.
