Gain some insight into life behind bars at Correctional Service of Canada Museum, located across from Kingston's penitentiary. Housed within the former warden's quarters, the museum displays improvised weapons, tools, and other items created by prisoners themselves with the most minimal of supplies. Former prison guards guide you through the exhibits, telling you stories of elaborate escape plans and contraband operations. Photographs, replicas, and other displays deepen your understanding of what life here was like, for both the guards and the inmates. • Pretty good museum. Takes around an hour to get through everything. Run by volunteers. No cost but donations welcome. Definitely worth it if you're already in Kingston. This isn't the penitentiary tour but rather a museum located in the old Warden's house.
