#10 of 145 in Nature in Ontario
Marvel at the second-highest waterfall in Ontario, Kakabeka Falls--aptly nicknamed "The Niagara of the North." Situated on the Kaministiquia river in the eponymous provincial park, the waterfalls plummet from a height of 40 m (130 ft). Easily accessed, a large boardwalk surrounds the river basin, so you can enjoy a scenic view of the powerful cascades. Drive or hike up to the viewpoints, explore the area's pristine nature, and admire the waterfall tumbling over the tall cliffside. • Must see attraction when passing thru on the Hwy. Falls is actually 2 feet deeper than Niagara Falls, but doesn't have the volume of water. Not illuminated at nite, and parking is congested at times. ...  more »
  • We get to the campsite of the Kakabeka Provincial Park past Thunderbay on Highway 11/17. We need to change the site because it is too steep. Finally settled on a large grassy site, it is a good dinner. At 10 pm, it's bright daylight. There are a lot of people at the campsite. Children are playing outside and walk around by bike. The next day we visit the Kakabeka falls. These are impressive waterfalls. The water flow is very powerful. We feel the mist on your face. But the most impressive is the mountain portage trail. The pioneers had to make a long portage on the steep mountain to work around the falls. Not easy life at this time. It's a nice visit...

  • Amazing vistas just west of Thunder Bay, Ontario. About a half an hour away on the left. Just past the town of Kakabeka Falls, Ontario. The falls are an incredible photo opportunity all year long. Great photos to be shot in the summer and winter. There’s also camp grounds on the far side of the Falls. There will be a fee payable as you drive into the parking lot.
  • The falls was beautiful and stunning. Has a nice trail for camping and trek if you want to see the little falls. A very nice place to spend time with Family and Friends. Would recommend going during summer.
  • Awesome, spectacular views and you can see it from many angles.
  • Drove 6 hours from MN to visit the falls and they didn't disappoint 💖💖. A must see if you're within driving distance.
  • Beautiful spot, a must see if visiting Thunder Bay.
