#3 of 16 in Nature in Jasper National Park
Surrounded by snowcapped mountains, Pyramid and Patricia Lakes feature sparkling blue water and quiet beaches, picnic spots and hiking trails, as well as plenty of outdoor sports. Situated within a national park, the area around the lakes supports diverse wildlife, including elk, bighorn sheep, and mountain goats. Rent a canoe or a rowboat and paddle around a small lake island, and learn about the area's important role during World War II, when it served as the building site of an unsinkable warship--which eventually sunk when the project was abandoned. • We've been here a few times in the summer and fall and found it to be great. Winter was great as well. There are sleigh rides on the lake, a large skating loop, hockey area, kids skating area, a fun r...  more »
  • This summer was the season of smoke from all the fires in BC. But no matter - there isn’t a bad day in the mountains. Overnight I could hear rain on the camper roof which meant the next day the air mi...  more »
  • Very beautiful lakes, very close to the center of Jasper, who's car. I visited in may/2017, on a cloudy day and strong winds, but it was still possible to feel the magic of the place. In the summer, is a good place to make pic-nics or venture out in kayaks.

  • Well, we didn’t really get to see the lake because we went up to view the stars from this sanctuary of star gazing. Great views of the sky. Our dark view afforded us many pull offs to view the lake and sky from and what appeared to be nice railed pathways to the lake.
  • Great for star gazing on a clear night. Great hiking, fairly easy to moderate trails. Pretty busy around the docks and actual island. Always come back to pyramid lake when we come to jasper. Great views!
  • So many trails in the area. Lots of parking spots. Really easy to get to from jasper town (8 mins drive). You can skate on the lake during the winter.
  • Back in Sept 2015: I planned to get there about midnight to shoot the Milky Way. Very dark, no light pollution. Very secluded. My wife was very worried about forest animals like bears and other creatures especially in the dark. When I got there, there were no fewer than 10 photographers with tripods all trying to get their best shot. So, no worries about bears, etc - too many people. If you get there in the dark and see photographers there, take care to walk lightly on the wood bridge, it bounces and make cameras & tripods bounce too, and ruins the shot for everyone. BE polite and considerate, so photographers won't yell at you. IN Sept we saw a bit of Northern Light. It was not impressive - just a bar of white light for a short time. But it was a FIRST for me... As for astrophotos that night.... got nothing that was worth showing. Next time, I'll spend more time and do my homework on my fancy camera.
  • Clean beach with beautiful views. We stopped here for a picnic at the recommendation of the Jasper Park Information Centre. There were many clean picnic tables right on the beach to choose from. We even spotted some wildlife!

Where to stay in Jasper National Park

Scores of hotels, lodges, and guesthouses line the western edge of Jasper's main thoroughfare, Connaught Drive, although you might struggle to find more budget-friendly options. If you're willing to pay a higher price, you can immerse yourself in nature without sacrificing luxury by staying in a resort or mountain lodge within the national park itself. Reserve your accommodations advance, as lodgings can be hard to come by at the height of the season.
