The Vineyard

We farm our vineyards using eco-friendly farming practices, including reduced chemical intervention, in an effort to encourage a healthy and sustainable environment. Our vineyards are located south of the 42nd parallel (as is southern Italy, central Spain and many of the California regions). The Lake Erie North Shore appellation has the highest heat accumulation and the longest growing season of the Ontario wine appellations. Our vineyards’ proximity to Lake Erie provides protection in the cold, as long as the lake has not frozen over, and access to lake breezes that exercise and dry our vines.

Our vines are planted in a north-south direction, with rows spaced eight feet apart and vines planted four feet apart to maximize sun exposure in the morning and provide protection from overheating and sun burn in the evening. We follow the European model and plant multiple clones of a variety, if possible, using various rootstocks to avoid a mono-culture and to maximize the imprint of the terroir. Our pruning, de-leafing, thinning and harvesting are done by hand to enhance quality. Leaf hedging is done mechanically. We tend to each variety individually and have different yields from each. The red varieties are protected from birds by netting because birds favour blue grapes over green and have an aversion to yellow. • I love getting appetizers with wine on a nice summer day. Unfortunately we tried dinner and waited almost three hours for our meals. Ironically the venue had asked for our order a day in advance so I'm not sure what happened there.
  • Very happy with our dinner here. Beautiful setting with large outdoor tents around the main building of the winery. Great live band playing the night we were there, which was surprisingly busy for a Monday night. However, service was still excellent, with an attentive server and a nice relaxing and accommodating pace to dinner. The food was also very, very good. The pork shoulder in particular was phenomenal. The prime rib was a bit overdone, but it didn't compromise the taste of the dish. Appetizers were also excellent, unique and tasty. We we're unfortunately too full for desert. We definitely plan on going back to sample other things on the menu.
  • Delicious wines and delicious foods. The staff are all always so friendly and knowledgeable. Maddy (at the tasting bar) is the best! Try the Regent. It's our favourite.
  • I love this winery! Beautiful place, friendly staff, great wine and amazing food! We had our wedding at Oxley in June and everything was great, they really made sure everything would run smooth on our special day. And what a stunnig location for a wedding! We got a lot of compliments from our guests. I would absolutely recommend this place for intimate wedding, lunch/dinner or wine tasting. We will definitely come back to enjoy the wine and food again! (At least for every anniversary but hopefully for other events too and just for fun.)
  • This winery has a very inviting atmosphere. The patio is pretty and they have a great selection on the menu. We ordered the lake Erie perch and unfortunately had a poor experience. The charcuterie board was excellent. Unfortunately our fish was overcooked as were the french fries. Would definitely give them a second chance as the service was very good.
