  • The citadel has an incredible view of the city and the presentations and interpretations are excellent.  more »
  • A must see while in Halifax. The citadel is exceptionally well preserved with the story of this facility told by reenactors who are very knowledgeable of the citadel's military history. The museum and...  more »
  • You can walk to this from the pier (which is what we did as we arrived on a cruise ship). We were able to get in for free, as all state museums in Canada were free during 2017. There are a number of e...  more »

  • Very interesting place to visit. Well kept and maintained. It's a quick visit, but well worth. The view would be better if not for the buildings around. It's interesting to think how it dominated the area around when it was built.
  • I had not visited in over 20 years but everything was exactly as I remember it. The history is incredible. The staff at the gatehouse directing people were very helpful and pleasant. Once inside there were plenty of staff in period clothing happy to help and direct. Signage for various sites, safety and for visiting were clearly marked and the grounds were very clean and well maintained. We had our dog with us and the staff were very respectful in advising when there was something coming up that may cause fright and how to manage it. This is something I recommend to anyone visiting Halifax and you should allow yourself at least a few hours to tour as there is plenty to see and experience. Not something you want to rush through.
  • If you want to enjoy a serious piece of Canadian history, do not miss visiting Citadel. It is rich with history from he mid to late 1700's, with friendly Staff walking the property and always ready to answer any questions you might have. It's a long walk up that hill, but it is definitely worth it.
  • Got to love our historic sites! Well organized tours at regular intervals during the summer. Have you heard an explosive sound? Odds are it's noon and the canon just fired... No worries!
  • Love going to the Citadel! We have gone many times and always enjoy the reenactments, the pipers and the unparalleled views. We bring out of town guests and they are always impressed and have a wonderful time. Lots to learn here too.
