Halifax Central Library, Halifax

#6 of 146 in Things to do in Halifax
Step into Halifax Central Library, where the building draws as much attention as the books. Halifax's largest public library features a dramatic fifth-floor cantilever over the entrance plaza. Inside, take the crisscrossed staircases to access the large collection of books. Take a break from reading and buy a refreshment on the rooftop terrace cafe, one of two cafes on site. Kids can also enjoy the play area or one of the many games available. Check ahead for any events that may be on during your visit. Great building but confusing layout. Good to stop in and just walk around. In the summer you can go right out onto the roof!

It's just so beautiful outside and inside. They have great selection of books and it's cool that they have Xbox 1's and PS4

I like the building design and sunshine lit up the whole place. I always sit at the couch area and read books with gorgeous view out there.

The new Halifax Central Library is a worthy and exciting addition to our city. It expands the concept of what a library can be, turning it into a centre of reading, research, and living. Architecturally stunning, and with an exciting stream of free activities for all tastes, this is truly a cultural hub for the whole city.

Someone decided it would be a great idea to have a Black History Month CONCERT come in. Could hear the concert throughout the library, even in the furthest corner of the fifth floor. Like really? A concert band playing in a library...
