(4.9/5 based on 160+ reviews on the web)
Take in stunning vistas and picturesque beauty at Swallowtail Lighthouse, one of the most photographed lighthouses in the region. Established in 1860, the active structure still boasts its original wooden tower, a rare sight these days. You'll need to descend over 50 stairs, traverse a wooden footbridge, and hike a gravel path to reach the lighthouse, but you'll be rewarded with fine views and a picnic area to enjoy a light snack. Bring along your binoculars and watch for eagles, seals, and even whales. Take a look at our Grand Manan vacation trip planner to schedule your visit to Swallowtail Lighthouse and learn about what else to see and do during your holiday.

  • This magnificent lighthouse is now open to get inside. It's huge. The lighthouse now has a new boardwalk around and to and from the keeper's house.

  • A must-see if visiting Grand Manan. It's a small hike from the parking lot to the lighthouse but well worth it for the views. If you go at the right time, you can watch the ferries come and go.
  • Great walk to a very picturesque location. Interesting also. Avoid if fog horn is sounding.
  • Use to work in Ingalls Head back in the mid 80's, awesome place. People are super friendly, beautiful sceneries.
  • This is an amazing place to visit. Perfect spot to watch the sunrise and the ferry come and go as it passes by. Best of all you can get a really good wifi signal in and around this area!
