From skiing to mountain biking, horse riding to alpine sightseeing, there's something for everyone at Kicking Horse Mountain Resort. Enjoy panoramic mountain views and ever-changing flora as you explore the area. A gondola takes you up to the grand mountains as high as 1,260 m (4,100 ft), where you have access to slopes comparable to those used for heli-skiing. As a result, the terrain is better suited for advanced skiers, as the slopes can be quite steep. • I booked the trip as a surprise for family visiting from England of course it ended up being the coldest day the Trail had not been groomed so turned out to be a real bumpy ride the scenery was magica...  more »
  • Long runs, feels like you spend more of your day on the hill than in lines for the gondola and lifts. Which is different than most other resorts I find. Great hill. We love it here.  more »
  • We have been trying out different resorts for two weeks. We are two experienced adults and the intermediate kids aged 9,12 and 14. Kicking Horse was nice and had opportunities for both steep slopes an...  more »

  • I love this hill. It is a paradise for advanced skiers. Terrible for beginners, this is a good hill to push your ability. One warning - it's steep. Stairway to heaven is a must-try for intermediate and better skiers. The view is incredible. The gondola is fast, but if it breaks down then the lower lifts are too slow to be worthwhile for intermediate and better skiers. Lots of traverses that aren't a problem for skiers, but can be a struggle for snowboarders. On-hill accommodations are great.
  • This is a mountain playground. Options are limited for the beginner skier, but there is a lot of fun terrain and varied steeps and treed runs for the intermediate-advanced skier. Also, as a spring skiing destination, this is an awesome resort, because there are so many slopes facing in different directions. You can always find great conditions and snow that's not sun-affected through the afternoon in spring. LOVE!
  • Kicking Horse Mountain Resort is an incredible ski hill for advanced riders. I would highly recommend it to anyone who can comfortably ski black and double black diamonds. If you can only ski Blue or Green runs I would not recommend coming here, you would simply have a bad time. If you are an advanced rider however this place is incredible!! Almost everything is steep and I mean really steep! Plenty of chutes, cliffs and gullies! Powder for days! Hiking T1 and T2 are totally worth it! There were quite a few runs that had turned into mogul fields so it was a lot of work as a snowboarder. The bottom half of the mountain was groomed but no where near as fun as the top half! This place is amazing definitely come for a visit!!!
  • Kicking horse resort was an alright mountain to ski on. I am a beginner skier and found it difficult to find where to ski. The easiest route down is substantially easier than any other green run which I found a bit disheartening. When I did find the family ski zone with it's own separate lift I had a much better time. I had lunch at their cafeteria which I would call adequate. For a small fountain pop it was $4. Overall I had an alright experience at kicking horse. Would be much better suited to those who are experienced skiiers/snowboarders
  • This is one of those mountains where they say "If you can ski Kicking Horse, you can ski anywhere". Definitely true! There's some insane terrain for intermediate to advanced skiers. I'm not the best skier so a lot of terrain is too advanced for me but there's a good selection to be enjoyed and there's a lot of options for challenging myself.

Where to stay in Golden

For convenience and proximity to local shops, stay at one of the lodges or bed and breakfasts located within the grid-like streets of the town center. If you want a bit more space to enjoy the natural settings, look out of town to nearby Edelweiss, where you'll find a range of inns and lodges just off the Trans-Canada Highway. If skiing is your main game, look west along Kicking Horse Trail, where you can stay at the base of the nearby ski gondolas.
