North Atlantic Aviation Museum, Gander

4.5
#1 of 12 in Things to do in Gander
North Atlantic Aviation Museum traces the development of transatlantic flight, from Gander's World War II role as a secret Allied airbase, through its heyday as the "Crossroads of the World" and continuing role as a vital stop on the "Great Circle Route" to Europe. Open throughout the year, the museum is coach and caravan friendly. Stop by to see a few highlights of the collection, which includes several World War II aircraft engines, a Tiger Moth bi-plane, the tail section and cockpit of a 1930s DC-3, and North America's only Lockheed Hudson MkIIIA mid-range bomber. • I nice collections of some rare aircraft. Most are outside which is not good for them being here in 50 years. There is a Hudson MK III, Canso, CF-101, Beech 18.  more »

  • A nice display of items from gander's aviation history, that takes less than an hour to check out. Outside the museum itself, there is a fine static display of actual aircraft you can walk up to and around.
  • Place was great and very informative with what I was able to see and read. But the service was horrible payed to get in then was rushed out 15 mins later because the person behind the counter wanted to go for lunch. Maybe next time they will have someone to cover for there lunch break was really disappointed that happened wish I would of known before hand and not had to waste my money to get rushed out 15 minutes later.
  • Comparatively small museum (essentially one large room) but still very enjoyable and worthwhile. Information panels/displays are arranged in chronological order around the room, so the entire museum reads like very fascinating storybook of the history of aviation in Newfoundland. There are a couple full-sized planes outside the museum, and there is a flight simulator you can try.
  • A lottle pricey for a one room museum. Cool history of the importance of Gander's airfield though.
  • Small aviation museum with great airplanes outside the building. The indoor exhibits range from older aircrafts parts and displays to a Sept 11th memorial and aircraft simulator. Worth a short visit!
