Spahat Falls, Clearwater

4.7
#3 of 6 in Parks in Clearwater
Through a narrow hanging gorge shoots a powerful rush of water that cascades freefalling some 75 m (246 ft) over the rocky cliff edge at Spahat Falls. The plunging waterfall owes its formation largely to deposits of volcanic rock and shifting icefields that chiselled gorges into the rock face. A brief, five-minute walk takes visitors from the parking lot to the main viewing platform; a longer, alternative hiking trail offers a slightly more scenic route. • From the parking lot the walk is only a few minutes and it is an easy walk. You could bring a stroller or wheelchair without much difficulty. The falls are visible from the fence or if you go further ...  more »
  • The most popular Park due to its proximity to the road. The trail starts in the parking lot and just 5 minutes you are the platform from which you can appreciate this cascade of 75 meters and walking in parallel its granite Canyon. You can't miss it!

  • Just off the highway (and in winter, just a few minutes hike) for spectacular views of the canyon and falls. Be sure to walk to the main lookout for the best views. Very secure chain link fences will keep kids and dogs safe.
  • Just a short drive and shorter hike from Clearwater is this gem. We came in the winter on our way home and because out Airbnb host suggested it as great spot just inside Wells Grey Park. Well worth the side trek!
  • Great natural wonder a quick drive off the highway!
  • Easily accessible and a glorious view. Super interesting volcanic landform and processes. Different than the usual glacial landforms seen around most of British Columbia.
  • Beautiful location.short walk from the parking area, with a nice platform viewing area.

Where to stay in Clearwater

Camping grounds and RV parks make up the majority of options in the small town, with the most scenic of these located slightly west of the center, on the shores of Dutch Lake. Don't expect much in the way of amenities at these sites--if you're looking for something more luxurious, reserve in advance to secure a room in one of the town's few bed and breakfasts.
