Helmcken Falls, Clearwater
Categories: Waterfalls, Nature & Parks
See an impressive natural landmark at Helmcken Falls, the fourth-highest falls in the country. Surrounded by the lush vegetation of a provincial park, the cascade drops over the western escarpment of the Murtle Plateau and crashes into a rough canyon. A viewing platform offers a good perspective on the falls, with the water, canyon, and surrounding trees forming a memorable (and very photogenic) scene. A range of trails through the countryside begin at the falls, of varying lengths and difficulties. This was our second visit to the Falls and it did not disappoint. My wife and I visited in July 2016. Car parking is very good and the paths to the falls are clearly marked.

As an Alaskan, I have to say, Helmcken Falls is very impressive. I visited there in September of 1971. I was visiting my father who was the superintendent on a project for K.P. Wood near Vavenby. The drive to the Falls was not bad for back then, all dirt and rock and pretty rough. It was a memory I'll never forget.
Tip: there's a hike that starts a few km south that gets you next to the waterfall for another impressive perpective. Don't forget your mosquito repellent if you are visiting during spring or summer.
Awe inspiring. One of many great waterfalls in BC
Very impressive. Must see if you're in the area. There is a hiking route to the south of the falls which provides a different perspective.
