Helmcken Falls, Clearwater

4.8
#1 of 6 in Parks in Clearwater
See an impressive natural landmark at Helmcken Falls, the fourth-highest falls in the country. Surrounded by the lush vegetation of a provincial park, the cascade drops over the western escarpment of the Murtle Plateau and crashes into a rough canyon. A viewing platform offers a good perspective on the falls, with the water, canyon, and surrounding trees forming a memorable (and very photogenic) scene. A range of trails through the countryside begin at the falls, of varying lengths and difficulties. • The furthest of the major falls, but worth it every minute. Magnificent falls in Wells gray. If you visit the park, head to Helmcken first and then work your way back, because most of the tourist buse...  more »
  • A bit far into the Wells Gray Provincial Park located at CLearwater, the most beautiful waterfall, we saw on our tour in Western of Canada can be found with the Helmcken falls. Deep water in a mighty Gorge falls, middle of May was still abundant ice to see and revealed that this waterfall is spectacular in all seasons. You get a few worth reading information on panels. Absolutely worth seeing.

  • Been here many times. Always a new trail to explore. Fun for the whole family. Great workout for the kids & hounds. The falls are the main attraction. I would highly recommend taking the time to do the hour hike on the opposite of the look out. Not for the faint of heart. The trails are well groomed and easy to navigate. There are no safety fences on the other side and the cliff is a long way down. There is a beautiful set of waterfalls just before the main big one. Be prepared with water and snacks.
  • Helmcken falls is absolutely breath taking, it's beauty is worth the drive even in the winter time driving through two feet of fresh snow. Once have driven to the top it's a short walk in the park to get to the viewing area and then there are plenty of other areas to check out near by. I'd highly recommended going and seeing it throughout the seasons of the year. I'd love to see them put in a gondola or zipline of some kind.
  • Unreal. The walk-in hike was way shorter than we were expecting & so exciting to approach from along the river before it drops. Beautiful forest as well.
  • Although a long drive from clearwater...well worth the effort. Give yourself a few hours to do at least 3 of the waterfalls...'little Niagra' being one of the best. Saw it at sunset...amazing
  • Beautiful place and hike, really quiet we had an awesome time exploring around.
