St. Dunstan's Basilica, Charlottetown

Step into St. Dunstan's Basilica and admire the marble floors, stained glass windows, and atmosphere of calm and contemplation. An original cathedral on the site burned down in 1907; the replacement you see today dates from 1913. Added to the list of National Historic Sites of Canada in 1990, it displays a Gothic Revival architectural style and represents one of the most prominent buildings in the city. As a local landmark, the basilica attracts both worshippers and those interested in the history and architecture of the town. • It's absolutely beautiful, no doubt! High spires, stained glass, gorgeous gothic interior... What really sets it apart, though, is the friendliness of many of the parishioners. Really lovely people, and that speaks highly of the clergy, as well.
  • We were fortunate enough to attend the Canada Day celebration and the unveiling of the church bells. It was a beautiful ceremony and really special time.
  • Glad it was open when we passed by. Right on historic Great George St just south of Province House. Nice basilica.
  • Such a beautiful place. One can truly believe God works find his home here
  • The architecht and design is beautiful. Takes time minutes Walk from convention centre in harbour to the cathedral.

Where to stay in Charlottetown

There's no better area from which to enjoy the city's iconic buildings than the center and its neighboring suburb, Spring Park. Here, you'll find the bulk of the city's accommodations, typically guesthouses or inns housed tastefully in restored old buildings. If you want views over the harbor, look closer to the waterfront to choose from several higher-end hotels. The neighborhood of West Royalty, located conveniently close to the University of Prince Edward Island, also offers a selection of budget to mid-range accommodations.
