Village Historique Acadien, Caraquet

4.7
Catch a glimpse of the Acadian way of life when you step into history at Village Historique Acadien. The village aims to show visitors the traditions of the Acadian colonists in the 17th and 18th centuries. The friendly staff in period costumes are happy to stop and answer questions, or walk you through their area. Each building portrays a story that helps to highlight aspects of early colonial life, like the printing shop, the tavern, and the general store. Head to the blacksmith for an especially interesting demonstration of metal working. The attraction regularly holds special events, so check the calendar before going. • Great place to learn about the Acadien life style.. The buildings are well maintained and makes you feel as though you have gone back in time to a small village. They even have the park area open in t...  more »
  • Be careful, don't go there in good weather, otherwise you pataugerez in the mud. Otherwise, it is a must that is worth the trip. Because in each historic house, you won't find no actors but real craftsmen, Cook, manufacturer of carpet hookes (to crochet), Carpenter, tinsmith, etc... Who practice their art as to the time when the House was built and you will explain it. Not an amusement park, a true teaching tool and a true jump in history.

  • This is a historic site. During the summer months, there are interpreters who give the history of each building and the people who lived there and/or the business operated. During the winter months there are no interpreters and the buildings are locked, but people and pets are welcome on site for leisurely walks. Great place to visit!
  • A great look at some of the history of New Brunswick. Staff are very knowledgeable and are dressed accurately for the period.
  • Wonderful authentic Acadian village...Learned a lot of our history
  • Nice place however we found that the employees would speak in English to us only until some french speaking tourists came in and then they would revert to French and ignore us English speaking tourists. Very disappointing. Wouldn't recommend it unless you speak french or don't mind being ignored.
  • One of the best historical villages to visite! In every building you will meet people in costume. If you visite as of the opening you will smell the food of the time being cooked in every house. A great experience to be done with the family. It will take a good part of the day to see but well worth the visite.
