  • The lighthouse at Cape George Point is quite remote, and you have to go there on purpose, leaving the Sunrise Trail-beautiful. But if you decide to go, the visit is really worth. Not only because they will meet a few other humans, but mostly because they meet many wild animals. We saw a moose, a bear and several deer. The area around the Lighthouse is equipped with picnic tables, and the ocean view is spectacular. Really worth a visit. Too bad the lighthouse itself is a bit run down, needs a new coat of paint.

  • We travelled north on the Sunrise Trail from Merigomish to Cape George and then south to Antigonish. This is off the beaten track and we did not encounter many tourists. What a feast of wildlife ! A B...  more »
  • We visited the Cape George point lighthouse on a nice sunny day. We did not have a picnic lunch but there are picnic tables there. And it is a nice secluded spot to enjoy the ocean. Always fun to see ...  more »

  • Just beautiful. Calm, cool, grassy, warm colors and gentle breezes. Though I imagine in Fall or Winter it could be a very different sort of beautiful and I'd love to see some pictures of that!
  • It's a breath taking view. Not too crowded. Nice place for a hike or a picnic. The washrooms are a few mins drive away and are outhouses.
  • Nice park with historic lighthouse managed and maintained by local historic group.
  • Awesome place to hang out with friends and view the Atlantic
  • Great Place to have a hike and a picnic. The Cape George Lighthouse is perched at the top of Cape George Point which overlooks the waters of St. George’s Bay. Interpretive panels are on site. Cape George Point Lighthouse is one of three trailheads for the Cape George Hiking Trail network. The present lighthouse was built in 1968 and it is the third lighthouse built on this site. It is 45 feet (14m) high with a group flashing (12s) electric light. It stands approximately 360 feet above the bay and both Cape Breton and Prince Edward Island are visible on a clear day. Built in 1861 and set on top of a wooden house, the first light was destroyed by fire in 1907. A second lighthouse and keeper’s homestead complete with some farm and a vegetable garden was constructed in 1908. The 1908 lighthouse was rebuilt in 1968 and it is this white, concrete octagonal structure and red octagonal lantern which stands on this site today.
