Mira River Provincial Park is a provincial park situated on the Mira River in Cape Breton County, 22 kilometres (14 mi) from Sydney and 17 kilometres (11 mi) kilometres from the Fortress of Louisbourg National Historic Site of Canada. Opened in 1967, the 87.49 hectares (216.2 acres) property offers camping sites and a range opportunities for outdoor recreation including picnicking, swimming, canoeing, kayaking, biking, front-country hiking, walking, boat ramp, fishing, cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, and geocaching. Lands were initially acquired for the park in 1962, with major acquisitions occurring in 1968 and 1973. The property was designated under the Provincial Parks Act by Order in Council (OIC 84-679) on 12 June 1984.
In an area of almost exclusively private properties, this park provides one of the few public access points to the Mira River.

  • Thought it would be nice and peaceful by the river in walkin sites....nope. Seadoos/jetskis doing laps in the water with loud motors all day and people blaring country music and cackling all night.....  more »
  • We enjoyed our Labour Day week end stay on the Mira. Loved the walk in sites. It would be benifical if there were garbage cans at the washrooms for the walk in area. Great place to spend time on...  more »
  • Terrible stay. This campground obviously has campers moved in for the summer, complete with trashy bouncy houses, plastic lantern lighting and late night karaoke. Don't stay here with your family if....  more »

  • The river water was very warm allowing for a cool reprieve from the hot summer air. Excellent for camping with family, friends and new found friends! Very clean and well maintained grounds makes it attractive for all visitors. All amenities nearby. Relax and enjoy one of the best Provincial parks on Cape Breton Island.
  • During our three week trip with RV in Nova Scotia this was one of the best campgrounds. Lots of free space to play. We had a site directly with waterfront. It was really quiet and we enjoyed one night without any issues. In contrast to many reports we had surprisingly no bugs.
  • Great campground with warmer water for swimming than the ocean. Nice playground and facilities. Was pretty quiet when we're visited mid summer.
  • Stayed 2 nights in the campground. Large sites, interior roads in good condition, beaches, clean, well patrolled. Beautiful park. Would stay again.
  • I really like this park! It's beautiful and accommodating but the only thing is the fire wood is damp and hard to burn.
