Ha Ling Peak, Canmore

(4.9/5 based on 220+ reviews on the web)
Climb over 700 m (2,296 ft) to take in the incredible views of Bow River Valley from Ha Ling Peak. The peak takes its name from a cook working for the Canadian Pacific Railway who, in 1896, climbed to the summit in record time. With various trails on offer, you can choose whether to hike, climb, or scramble to the peak to enjoy the panoramic vistas. When you leave the tree-shaded area, the path to the top becomes loose rock, so wear appropriate footwear. Put Ha Ling Peak and other Canmore attractions into our Canmore family vacation planner, and watch your holiday take shape.

  • The walk was easy to navigate, the climb steady, and the view spectacular. There was a slight breeze at the top, and the day was sunny. I would caution being on the top during foul weather.
  • This hike is funny- I did it every Monday for two months just to get in shape for winter hiking. Great views at the top. Lots of people through the summer on the trail- lots of unprepared people. Alth...  more »
  • We went on a day that it had been cloudy and lightly snowing, and the view was not near as pretty as it is on sunnier, clear days. I would absolutely recommend renting snow cleats, they make it well w...  more »

  • Nice day hike, 10 minute drive from Canmore. Generally steep, the tall climbs above treeline at the top. Great views of Canmore and the Bow Valley. Pretty exposed at the top! Trail can be run/fat hiked in 1.5 hours return, but most people will take 3-4 hours car-to-car.
  • Great hike close to Banff. Decent elevation gain from the start, and possibly challenging scramble near the summit. Definitely worth the view you're rewarded with.
  • Great views - can be done in 3 hrs from parking to summit if you're fit.
  • Great short, intense hike. The views are amazing.
  • Great experience. Nice incline great view from the top. Nice challenge for the whole family. My buddy and I took our 7 and 8 year old sons and they made it all they way!!
