Ha Ling Peak, Canmore

4.8
#3 of 7 in Nature in Canmore
Climb over 700 m (2,296 ft) to take in the incredible views of Bow River Valley from Ha Ling Peak. The peak takes its name from a cook working for the Canadian Pacific Railway who, in 1896, climbed to the summit in record time. With various trails on offer, you can choose whether to hike, climb, or scramble to the peak to enjoy the panoramic vistas. When you leave the tree-shaded area, the path to the top becomes loose rock, so wear appropriate footwear. • Easy Navigation on a very popular hike. Lots of switchbacks keep the elevation gain consistent without being overwhelming.  more »
  • I have hiked up Ha Ling peak twice and both times were SPECTACULAR! You need proper winter gear with hikers and spikes and make sure you bring warm clothing for the top as it is very cold and windy. I...  more »
  • Once you have found the start of this tour, you will be enchanted! Of course you won't be alone in the world on this hike because it is one of the most popular of the corner but will be rewarded by his unusual and dizzying Summit. If you want a moment of solitude, push a little hiking off-trail, to the East of the Summit!

  • It's a nice hike, with some of the most accessible views through the whole Banff-Canmore area, but it's so crowded! By all means attempt it (it's quite steep) but there will always be a huge mass of people with you, no matter the time.
  • As others have said, easy to intermediate difficulty. The hike is short but relatively steep. Very popular amongst families and tourists. Accessible for all skill levels.
  • This place is 100% worth it. A leg busting climb with killer views at the top. Easy enough for a first time mountain climb, but with scenery that makes it totally worth the sore legs the next day.
  • Amazing views. Large elevation gain. Like doing a stair workout with a beautiful reward.
  • A short hike for a good peak. I have done this hike many times. Even stayed overnight for some good city view. This hike is definitely recommended for new hikers and first hike of the season.
