  • The Best Farmer's Market in Calgary. They have far wider variety of produce and number sellers during summer. However, during off season, the Chongo's Market still remains open. Inside the market there are shops providing glimpses of eastern European food and other delicacies. There is also a meat shop which sells exotic items like crocodile meat, zebra meat etc.
  • Just look at that Unagi bowl! Need I say more? Amazing food and people. The sushi joint is amazing, as is the coffee shop, the Turkish food place, the Spanish place with all the salads you can try!!! (Their salsas, tortillas, and chips are grand) But seriously why go to regular grocers when you have locally grown organic stuff. You know the money goes directly to the farmers/vendors. The food here isn’t expensive either. Much better selection too.
  • I absolutely loved it! :) The fresh produce selection was fantastic. There was fresh fish and a nice butcher with tasty jerky. There is a florist with beautiful bouquets. And so many shops! Home decor, vintage toys, retro kitchen items, beautiful collectables, electronics, old records, craft supplies, and so much more... I could have spent hours upon hours looking through all the treasures. I plan to return on my next visit to Calgary for sure!
  • Ah the dirt mall...This place is awesome. Great food and tons of cool vendors. We buy all our produce here during the summer when they have the outdoor market. A special shout out to Mike at Purple Gorilla Comics in the flea market area. Probably the most knowledgeable comic book fan I've ever met. Always remembers what I'm collecting and will always keep and eye out for it. His prices are awesome and he has great deals on comic sets.
  • Regina the butcher is amazing and the highlite of a trip here.,This isn't a Farmers Market although it hosts a few farmers in the summer. Don't confuse Chongos with a grocer who gets things locally, everything comes from the same warehouse as any other grocery store. They do make a killer guacamole and mango salsa, though. The flea market and food court area especially have a unique moldy/BO/rancid oil smell, and the food stalls look like they could all use a scrub.

Where to stay in Calgary

South of the river is where most of the action happens in Calgary, and that's where you'll find the best selection of places to stay. Downtown, the central neighborhood located on the river's southern bank offers the widest range of choices, with access to several of the city's major metro stations a big plus. For arts, nightlife, and quality of living, go to The Beltine, known for its cafes, restaurants, arts, and entertainment. If you're just visiting the city briefly but want access to onward transport links, choose accommodations located close to the city's international airport.
