  • Could only do a couple of short walks to Pipers Spit and Lookout as well as around the Cariboo dam. Even though you're in the middle of a big city it feels like you're wandering in natural woodlands a...  more »
  • This park is so calming. It could be "crowded" with people on the spit but the lake is huge and you can go for long walks. Once around the lake is 10km so you can get your exercise in while you relax ...  more »
  • Burnaby Lake, the largest lake in the Metro Vancouver area, is home to many birds. Some species are seen year-round while others are more seasonal. One of my favorites is the colorful Wood Duck. There...  more »

  • The trail around the lake is 10km long and takes 2+ hours to complete by fast walk. It's not a super scenic hike as you almost never see the lake itself. But it is in the middle of Burnaby and so convenient to get to. It's worth going around at least once in your life, otherwise just head straight to Piper Spit at main entrance as won't get better views anyway.
  • Nice, long, forested walking/running trail surrounds this shallow lake. Piper spit, at the North entrance is a popular birding area and hosts a variety of waterfowl, songbirds, cranes and coots. The lake also has a rowing club near the SW entrance, and an equestrian center and horse trails near the east entrance (Avalon ave.) The lake is not really a swimming lake, though. And although dogs must be leashed in this regional park, there is a fenced-off, municipal, dog-off-leash park near the north (Piper) entrance (piper spit, nature house).
  • Perfect place to run. 10k if you go 360 around the lake. Saw a bear there once.
  • A wonderful park within the city. Many birds and wild life around. Great for family outings.
  • Really nice urban park with lots of walking trails. Rowing club. Lots of parking. Nice scenery. Dog friendly.
