Garibaldi Provincial Park, British Columbia

4.8
#17 of 99 in Trails in British Columbia
Embrace the wilderness at Garibaldi Provincial Park, a pristine alpine park that features a jagged glacier-capped mountain vista, a scenic lake, and a wide array of plant and animal life. Douglas firs, western red cedar, and western hemlock forests dot the grounds. Go for a leisurely trek through the canopied park, paying special attention to the glacial mountain vantage point, or the lush greenery surrounding Garibaldi Lake. These treks can be quite challenging, particularly in the winter months, so approach with caution if fitness or walking ability are a concern. We did the gruelling hike up to garibaldi lake with our camping gear, but spent two nights at the lake which was amazing. Such a beautiful spot, even more so once the day trippers have left for the da...  more »

Undoubtedly one of the best hikes I have ever done. My brother and I did it one day day. Its a good 30kms round trip and even more if you're unlucky enough to park really far away. The first 6kms is a...  more »

The hike to the Lake Garibaldi pulls here already neatly from the trailhead. We ran quite quickly and had for that brief 3 hours. The view was breathtaking, unfortunately it had something a lot of people. Nevertheless, I could not resist a dip... The next time we definitely take with our tent to stay at least a day longer and to rise even to the Black Tusk. So, we had to venture relegation soon again to be back home before nightfall.

The view of the Barrier from the view point is just amazing, and the view of Garibaldi Lake is breathtaking. the reflection of the mountains on the water provide for a more dramatic view. You can also see the Black Tusk from Garibaldi Lake on a good day. At the Barrier viewpoint one may occasionally see some Whiskey Jacks (type of bird), and they are not afraid of humans and it is possible to have them land on your arm or hand.

A must visit! The pictures only capture the essence of this place. Nothing compares to seeing this natural beauty yourself. Come back again and again.

Where to stay in Whistler

Whistler caters to guests with a wide selection of accommodations, although budget travelers might struggle to find more affordable options. If you visit Whistler during the ski season, stay in the southern section of town, closest to the main ski lifts. You can also beat the crowds of the town proper and stay farther south in Whistler Creek, where the shores of Alta Lake meet the Creekside gondola. It's worth booking early no matter what time of year you visit, as the town can get incredibly busy even during summer.
