Cape Bonavista Lighthouse, Bonavista

(4.6/5 based on 240+ reviews on the web)
A striking sight on the coast of Newfoundland, Cape Bonavista Lighthouse attracts visitors with its history as the fourth oldest lighthouse in the easterly province and for its vibrantly painted exterior. Operating from 1843 until 1962, the lighthouse now invites visitors to experience the life of a provincial lighthouse keeper. Steadily climb the tall stone tower and witness one of the few locations in the world where you can still see the seal oil fuelled light apparatus used throughout the nineteenth century, along with beautiful panoramic views off the coast. Downstairs, a series of displays and artefacts tell the tale of the local industry, as well as presenting the ecological history of Cape Boavista. Work out when and for how long to visit Cape Bonavista Lighthouse and other Bonavista attractions using our handy Bonavista travel itinerary planner.
