Cape Jourimain is a headland in the western part of the Northumberland Strait on its southern shore, 3 kilometres west of New Brunswick's easternmost point at Cape Tormentine.Cape Jourimain is formed by Jourimain Island and Trenholm Island, which have been connected to the mainland since 1965-1966 by an artificial causeway built using infill as part of an approach road and railway for an aborted causeway across the Abegweit Passage of Northumberland Strait to Borden, Prince Edward Island. The causeway blocked all water flow on the western side of the island and the shallow waters became heavily silted and formed a large salt marsh. The salt marsh and the islands themselves were designated the Cape Jourimain National Wildlife Area by the Canadian Wildlife Service in 1980 due to the importance of the 675 hecatare site for supporting habitat of migrating seabirds.Cape Jourimain saw the 1960s-era approach road rebuilt in the early 1990s and opened on June 1, 1997 as part of 5 kilometre realignment of Trans-Canada Highway Route 16 with the commissioning of the Confederation Bridge. The railway, abandoned in the late 1960s after the aborted causeway project, was converted to a recreational trail.Arrange to visit Cape Jourimain Nature Centre and other attractions in Bayfield using our Bayfield planner .

Cape Jourimain Nature Centre Reviews
This is a great stop before going over the bridge or after you cross for views of the bridge. Nice trail through the woods to an elevated viewing area, great for pictures. more »
Since there are no views from the bridge itself, we stopped here for a view before crossing it. We didn't go into the Visitor Centre, as there didn't seem to be much need for explanation. We did wande... more »
I can't honestly say much because it was closed. We drove there to see the Confederation bridge and to use the washrooms. We parked and walked along one of the paths to the lookout which gives you a g... more »
Stopped by the restaurant, museum. And a little exercise along the three designated walking trails. Restaurant had a very good breakfast $9.00, the viewing tower gave a new perspectiv of the bridge, the museum is good for all but in particular children. The three walking trails are dog friendly with a substance of 1.8km, 3km, or 6km depending on which one you choose. They are well groomed and marked. I highly recommend this stop for everyone! Whether to take a stunning photo, a slice of lemon meringue pie, or stretching the legs.
Great place to stop before going to PEI, some nice look out points and a few good trails if you happen to be travelling with a dog.
Good exit to say bye to amazing PEI
Today, the Cape Jourimain Nature Centre featured a Pokémon Go event. There was a 2K egg hatching race, a pokeball hunt, a gym tournament, cake, and active lures all day long. We met a lot of great people and really enjoyed seeing all that the Nature Centre had to offer. They have free wifi, a delicious restaurant, lots of picnic areas, great views, and really interesting exhibits. The view of The Confederation Bridge from the observation tower was spectacular! We really enjoyed our trip and will definitely be back.
Really great views of the Confederation Bridge, good place to stop before driving across. Also some interesting information about the area and a couple short nature trails.
