Cape Jourimain is a headland in the western part of the Northumberland Strait on its southern shore, 3 kilometres west of New Brunswick's easternmost point at Cape Tormentine.Cape Jourimain is formed by Jourimain Island and Trenholm Island, which have been connected to the mainland since 1965-1966 by an artificial causeway built using infill as part of an approach road and railway for an aborted causeway across the Abegweit Passage of Northumberland Strait to Borden, Prince Edward Island. The causeway blocked all water flow on the western side of the island and the shallow waters became heavily silted and formed a large salt marsh. The salt marsh and the islands themselves were designated the Cape Jourimain National Wildlife Area by the Canadian Wildlife Service in 1980 due to the importance of the 675 hecatare site for supporting habitat of migrating seabirds.Cape Jourimain saw the 1960s-era approach road rebuilt in the early 1990s and opened on June 1, 1997 as part of 5 kilometre realignment of Trans-Canada Highway Route 16 with the commissioning of the Confederation Bridge. The railway, abandoned in the late 1960s after the aborted causeway project, was converted to a recreational trail.Arrange to visit Cape Jourimain Nature Centre and other attractions in Bayfield using our Bayfield planner .

Cape Jourimain Nature Centre Reviews
There is a nice interpretive center at the base of the bridge, observation tower and trail down to the beach to view the bridge. The trail is about 1/2 mile long. Worth a stop to get out of the car an... more »
Of course, weather permitting. We lucked into a partly cloudy day with no fog, so we were able to view the bridge from the observation tower. They've got trails to walk if you have the time, along wit... more »
Petit musée intéressant (gratuit) sur l'histoire et l'écosystème de l'endroit. Délicieux restaurant, nourriture de style maison (agréable en voyage quand on mange toujours dans de la restauration rapi... more »Small (free) interesting museum about the history and ecology of the place. Delicious restaurant, home style food (nice trip when we eat in fast food), affordable. We have not walked the trails because it was raining, but would like to try them next time. The composting toilets have scared our tiny, but they are modern and completely odourless.
The backyard beach, trees, garden..everything is beautiful.
Today, the Cape Jourimain Nature Centre featured a Pokémon Go event. There was a 2K egg hatching race, a pokeball hunt, a gym tournament, cake, and active lures all day long. We met a lot of great people and really enjoyed seeing all that the Nature Centre had to offer. They have free wifi, a delicious restaurant, lots of picnic areas, great views, and really interesting exhibits. The view of The Confederation Bridge from the observation tower was spectacular! We really enjoyed our trip and will definitely be back.
Really great views of the Confederation Bridge, good place to stop before driving across. Also some interesting information about the area and a couple short nature trails.
Love it. Beautiful spot. Very scenic.
Absolutely gorgeous with an amazing observation tower overseeing the Northumberland Straight and the Confederation bridge. Worth the slight detour
