Tunnel Mountain Trail, Banff
(4.7/5 based on 380+ reviews on the web)
Hike Tunnel Mountain Trail for a rewarding view of the Canadian Rockies. At a length of 2.3 km (1.4 mi), the sloping trail remains mostly gentle but requires a moderate fitness level for uphill trekking. Once at the top, you'll find a compelling 360-degree view of the surrounding mountains, river valleys, towns, and a golf course. Be sure to check the conditions of the trail before going and take shoes with good traction, as the rocks can get slippery. • This walk took my husband and I about an hour up and half an hour down. It was fairly easy as the incline is not much, but this makes it tiring because you feel like you're walking a long way without ...  more »
  • This is a gem of a hiking trail and good for families. It is a short trail to the top, but depending where you start, you will feel the elevation. Still the rewards at the top are worth the effort. If...  more »
  • One get a very good flavor of the Rockies. The trail winds about giving a good city and the river view. A very good hike.

  • Easy trail that can be accomplished in an hour to two hours. The view is more than worth the easy pace of the trail. It's right inside Banff, so parking and getting there is not difficult. Very pet, beginner and kid friendly.
  • Spectacular views! This 5.7km round trip hiking trail is not hard, although it has some steep spots. The family with small kids can even hike on this trail. The views are amazing when you are facing the Hoodoos mountain! The mountain is completely in frond of your eyes! Amazing!
  • A great quick hike just within the Banff townsite. You can do this in 40 minutes if you really walk briskly, or take your time and enjoy the view of the town. It's an easy hike and can be done in as little as sandals if you're worried about footwear. There's no tunnel on this mountain, rather it was originally supposed to have the train tunnel drilled through. Those plans changed pretty quickly and the tracks were rerouted.
  • A great hike and amazing views at the top. Even if one isn't in hiking shape, so to speak, one can take as many breaks as One wants and make it to the top to savor the views of Banff and the surrounding national Park area!
  • Was told it was a moderate hike... I know I'm out of shape but it felt a bit more difficult than moderate. The payoff is amazing however.
