Bow Falls, Banff

#5 of 64 in Parks in Banff National Park
Witness a raging torrent of white water at Bow Falls. Listen to the hypnotic roar as the water tumbles down the dramatic cascade. Though not particularly high, the falls are wide, and the power on display is undeniable. If you can handle some stairs, the trail continues beyond the falls and is worth exploring for a peaceful stroll where you might spot some wildlife. Nicely accessible from a nearby carpark, the falls offer something for everyone to enjoy. • Beautiful place to spend 1 hour tops. Good parking and well signposted. How close to the Center, I recommend!

  • We have been to the falls many times,in all seasons. It is very beautiful,a great place to sit and relax. You can also take a walk by the river or up to the falls. In winter this path is closed, but th...  more »
  • Got there late in the day, but that did not deter from the awesomeness of the falls. They were very pretty with parts of it being frozen. The edges around the river were also frozen. Be sure and walk ...  more »

  • Despite the fact that Bow Falls drops just 30-feet, it is still considered a major waterfall on the Bow River, just before the Bow joins with the Spray River. These falls are located near and within walking distance of the Banff Springs Hotel. They are popular with many tourists, but we did not find the walk along the river to the falls too overly-crowded. There is a park-like area along the river bank that has viewpoints to observe the river and falls. This includes a paved pathway leading to some log steps, or a paved path with a gentle rise to accommodate strollers and wheelchairs. We enjoying watching the river at the bottom of the falls as it changed color and joined the Spray River.
  • Every time we go to Banff we stop at the falls. Offers great views and an observation deck. The falls are always interesting to view whether there is high or low water flow rate. Parking can get scarce and large tour buses do frequent the area. Note that public washrooms are not available.
  • It's our third time coming to this place in summer. Love it in every visit, no matter we look at it from above at the viewpoint, or to watch the fall afar from the beach.
  • On of the most beautiful places on earth.
  • Hiked Bow Falls to Banff bridge - beautiful!
