Sunshine Village, Banff National Park

(4.2/5 based on 500+ reviews on the web)
Ski way up on the Continental Divide at Sunshine Village, a ski and snowboard resort. With a feeling of wilderness and wildness (though just a 15-minute drive from town), the resort offers runs and routes for visitors of all ages and abilities. Thanks to 9 m (30 ft) of natural snowfall per season and an altitude of 2,195 m (7,200 ft), the powder here stays dry throughout. A large terrain park boasts a range of exciting obstacles, jumps, and bumps for the daring. • This place was nothing but amazing. When you first pull in, and it's only the base lodge and the gondola station you have no idea what lies ahead. The ride to the village is very scenic and enjoyable ...  more »
  • A beautiful ski area on sunny, wind-free days. After almost all slopes above the tree line. Most difficult slopes.

  • We are intermediate skiers, but already we know 4 mountains... I think that here he has played us much more snow than elsewhere, tracks are varied and in general everything has been really fun! The only drawback is that we stayed in Banff Sunshine Village to reach us takes about 35 minutes, and while the shuttle is free, just get some points and each time! This didn't it seen so we lost time because of this (not to mention that on Saturday there was an accident on the way to the mountain and took us 1:40 hours get there!) I know what a ski hotel in & out in the middle part of the mountain so that would have been a better choice, or at least staying in Banff close to one of the stops of the shuttle.

  • Nice food! We are going to the Sunshine Mountain Lodge next year so I will write another review then. I have only been to the restaurant so far but I can certainly say that the food there is amazing. Especially good burgers!
  • Purchased tickets to ride the gondola up mid-summer. Almost like heli-hiking, but with a much smaller price tag! We hiked to Citadel Pass and back (21 km), but there are several other shorter hiking options available. Last half of July is great for wildflowers and September/early October for golden larch season.
  • Everything you need. If I had enough money I could live here all winter. Beautiful location, nice rooms, good food, lots to do, great amenities, and friendly, interesting staff.
  • Everything you would ever want in a Mountain. All abilities, slack country and extreme freeride.. all originating from here!
  • One of the earliest ski resorts to open in Alberta thanks to the long gondola ride up. Good pow early in the season.
