Sunshine Village sits high on the continental Divide in the heart of Banff National Park, just a 15 minute drive from the picturesque mountain town of Banff. Three sprawling mountains feature more than 3,300 acres of skiable terrain, ranging from gentle inviting beginner runs all the way up to the most extreme big mountain runs. With an altitude of 2,200 m (7,200 ft) at the village, Banff Sunshine receives over 9 m (30 ft) of soft, dry "champagne" snow in a season and boasts the longest non-glacial season in Canada. Banff Sunshine Village offers guests 12 lifts including nine super lift one of which being Canada’s only heated chairlift and a high speed 8 passenger gondola. • Sunshine is by far one of my favorite ski and snowboard hills. There are like 3 different mountains you can hit with numerous chairlifts and runs, the new heated chair is awesome. Even when its busy, it's so big that theres always room to ride. The season pass or sunshine super card are definitely worth it. The hotel is really nice with great food.
  • I really like sunshine, but not everyone does. There is tons of terrain, and you can access terrain of all levels relatively easily, but it's hard to move from one area to another. You kind of have to ski on one chair lift for a while, and then dedicate half an hour to moving to a new spot on the mountain. Do not come here if the weather is lousy. There is almost no tree coverage, so 80% of the mountain becomes unbearable if it's windy and snowy, and the last 20% is only enjoyable if you're a mediocre skiier. Show up early on a weekend, because the parking lot is huge and it's a pain to walk through. There's a sneaky parking lot around back that you can sometimes get in if the front lot is getting full. Drive past the lodge and past the valet parking and you'll find it.
  • Sunshine is a good place to ski, if you're not snowboarding as there are a ton of flat spots and dips you have to keep your speed up to get through. Lift capacity is exceptional. Ticket prices are steep. Terrain is varied. Most runs are relatively short. There's a hotel onsite if you want a multi-day experience.
  • We spent last week at Sunshine Village skiing and enjoying the Canadian Rockies. We stayed at Sunshine Mountain Lodge, so you ride the gondola to the hotel. Our room was on the small side, no refrigerator, bar or really anything other than a small coffee maker. The food was expensive and particularly a good value at the hotel, the other restaurants offer about the same food at much reduced prices. Service all week was a bit sketchy, but staff was friendly and interesting, so we really didn't mind. Skiing was perfect. Never waited in a line the whole week, slopes were groomed where needed and left to nature where appropriate. Lift operators were friendly and professional. We will be back, but the 5:30 gondola shut down kept us from making excursion unless we gave up a day of skiing. We'll probably stay in Banff next time and have more freedom to move around the province, more restaurant opportunities, and access to other ski areas.
  • Had a blast on a beautiful bluebird day. We are novice snowboarders and there were plenty of runs to choose from. We were even able to throw in a blue one. Beautiful views from the summits. Often I found myself looking around and taking it in rather than focus on what was ahead of me :) Enjoy!
