Marche des Fleurs, Douala

2.8
#2 of 9 in Things to do in Douala
Purchase a wide array of fresh exotic flowers and peruse all sorts of handcrafted wares in the bustling ambience of Marche des Fleurs. The market receives many visitors on a daily basis, but things can get overwhelming from lack of friendliness and tact. You can find interesting local products, but always check the quality first, since some items may seem worn or damaged. If you have the time and the patience, expect to do a lot of bartering to decrease imposed prices. With our world travel planner, Douala attractions like Marche des Fleurs can be center stage of your vacation plans, and you can find out about other attractions like it, unlike it, near it, and miles away.

  • If you want to find African crafts you are in one of the places in Douala or you will find art that may be as old as modern. Problem did the airport you will have to pay a fee to get out your purchases, so it should not buy anything especially the ancient art. For the flowers you will find quality and a diversity not negligible. All this must be done in negotiating because prices are announced often for the tourist 4-5 times above the real price.

  • Very nice, typical market of handicrafts of Cameroon. Good prices on the African statuettes and Cameroon including swimwear

  • not very original products. Insistent approach of sellers. Not really interesting from my point of view.

  • The flower market is pretty... I'm just not much of a flower guy. Bird of paradise and lots of other exotic flowers. The artisan market behind the flower shops has tons of stuff. Pretty high pressure sales pitch, but if you're polite and move along slowly they're OK. The shopkeepers really do like it when you look in their shops.
  • A good place to find some local trinkets but expect to be bullied around by the peddlers selling their wares. The strategy they use made me very uncomfortable, they lure you into their shop then block the exit with their bodies to force you to go through their stuff and won't step aside until you commit on a purchase. My suggestion is to take a local with if you need to go here as they do inflate the prices for foreigners. Sunday seems to be a very dead day there with most shops closed.
  • Went to purchase flowers for my cousin's wedding. It has beautiful, fresh flowers of various colours at affordable prices.
  • Many shops. Good variety. Worth a visit(or two 😉)
  • Great place to find art and sculpture As well as flowers for different types of event one may host
