Kbal Chhay Waterfall, Sihanoukville

(3.4/5 based on 240+ reviews on the web)
A former hideout of the notorious Khmer Rouge, Kbal Chhay Waterfall today serves as a popular tourist destination and a clear water reservoir for the nearby town. The water gathers from several sources and cascades 14 m (46 ft) over multiple tiers. Take a dip in the refreshingly cool pool and the bottom of the waterfall, or buy some snacks from the local food stalls and find the perfect place for a picnic. The lush green area around the falls serves as a popular picnicking spot, but can also get quite messy with rubbish left behind by visitors. • I've see cleaner rubbish dumps. Not sure where the 1 dollar entry fee goes, certainly not on cleaning up. Don't bother.
  • Stumbled this waterfall while exploring on our scooters back in June 2012, no one around. Not bad, good for a day explore and swim

  • 1$ Entry Fee. (Must be for road maintenance?) Unfortunately there is a lot of trash in some areas, and none of the hundreds of shop owners are interested in getting off of their lazy asses to clean it up. There are a few efforts made here and there to try to contain the pollution, but it's really a bit of a show. It's a nice place, and the water is beautiful, but I'm not sure it's worth supporting as it feels like they don't really care and all they see from foreigners is walking dollar bills. Lots of food vendors etc, but you even have to pay to use a toilet.
  • Great waterfall with fresh water. Good time to visit here is around May. If you come here at dry season there're will be not enough water to play. This place is really popular for local people and tourism.
  • Although this attraction is mentioned on all of the tourist information, it's not that easy to get to by independent means. We took a motorcycle from the town towards the airport past the Ankor brewery and Crown can factory. Look out for the turn on yhe left not well signposted. Then about 8km up an unsurfaced road. Charge 1 $ entrance but well worth it. Could be disappointing in dry season.
  • Nice waterfall, refreshing water, fare off the mainroad, I rented a motorcycle to reach it. Although a lot of trash... Seems to be a local picnic place.
  • Nice view. Since it's the rainy season it was flooded and it added up to the attraction
