Tonle Sap Lake, Siem Reap

(1/5 based on 1,600+ reviews on the web)
Discover the vast seasonally inundated Tonle Sap Lake, which remains one of country's most important sources of food. Situated in the Cambodian floodplain--a geological depression--the lake gets replenished by the Mekong River and shelters an abundance of natural and agricultural habitats. Rent a boat ride to travel across the lake and experience the beauty of floating villages and natural havens. Many tour operators try to exploit tourists by "demanding money to feed the hungry," but you can easily avoid this by purchasing food yourself and donating it to the poor directly. For Tonle Sap Lake and beyond, use our Siem Reap vacation generator to get the most from your Siem Reap vacation.

  • Shipping has placed our guide us to the heart, has us $35 per person cost. That seemed very expensive to us, but ok... The ship was completely ratty, the ship tank open right on the boat, steering wheel etc. full of rust. The ship guide plus the driver beer have been drinking throughout. Morning at 9! The empty cans landed in a wide arc into the river. On the way back from the crocodile farm (squeezed together animals waiting to be processed to bags!) they invited us, financially helping the poor people. After we have rejected, the Guide has spoken more with us... Our Tip: No matter what promises the Guide, take a wide berth to this activity!

  • Our tuk tuk driver talked us into going to floating village whilst in Siem Reap. Very dissapointed. $20 entry fee very expensive for what you get. Ride on a boat see some floating huts, school, church...  more »
  • After the Temple in Siem Reap to see the only place I think it. Göre10 your ability to negotiate any tour company-$ 15 range, you can buy at an affordable price. The continent of Asia's largest fresh water basin and a portion of the 3 million people who live around it, observe what conditions he lived did not enjoy, but it was a good experience.
