Thommanon, Siem Reap

Ruin
Explore the World Heritage Site of Thommanon, an intricately rendered, stone Hindu temple nestled amid lush Cambodian nature. One of a pair of temples, this modestly sized site was constructed in the 12th century (during the reign of Suryavarman II), and is dedicated to the deities Shiva and Vishnu. A well-preserved example of ornate Khmer architecture, its lasting sandstone design is attributed to the builders' decision to construct using stone entirely, omitting the wooden supports that were used in other sites in the area. Look out for the carved statues of the divine female "Devatas" in abundance around the site, each displaying their own "mundra," or symbolic hand gesture, as well as ornately carved panels depicting various examples of Hindu lore. Consider bringing a torch to illuminate these internal parts of the temple for closer inspection. To visit Thommanon and other attractions in Siem Reap, use our Siem Reap vacation route planner.

  • Thommanon is a little temple opposite the Chau Say Tevoda temple and near the Angkor Wat's Gate of Victory. Not much to see but you get to look at 2 temples together.  more »
  • A small temple on the Seam Reap temple tour, small and quite nice. Less tourists stop by, so ou can have a quieter look on the ancient culture.  more »
  • I went at the end of the 12/2016. Is located on the left side of the road and go a little bit out of the gate of victory of Angkor Thom site. Across the road on the opposite side, Chau, Sai, the border remains. Thomanon is a small building similar to Angkor Wat ruins. There is a souvenir shop in front of the ruins, cute elementary school students about children has Barker eagerly.

  • Nice small temple that mirror Chau Say Tevada opposite it. Worth a visit.
  • Nothing special here but if u pass by why not
  • Good
  • This is a small temple that you can see in about ten minutes or so. The most important features are not the overall design but the carved decorations. They are in a relatively good condition and give you a sense of how things would have looked at some of the less-preserved sites.
  • This is just a small temple but is still worth stoping.
