Thommanon, Siem Reap
(4/5 based on 100+ reviews on the web)
Explore the World Heritage Site of Thommanon, an intricately rendered, stone Hindu temple nestled amid lush Cambodian nature. One of a pair of temples, this modestly sized site was constructed in the 12th century (during the reign of Suryavarman II), and is dedicated to the deities Shiva and Vishnu. A well-preserved example of ornate Khmer architecture, its lasting sandstone design is attributed to the builders' decision to construct using stone entirely, omitting the wooden supports that were used in other sites in the area. Look out for the carved statues of the divine female "Devatas" in abundance around the site, each displaying their own "mundra," or symbolic hand gesture, as well as ornately carved panels depicting various examples of Hindu lore. Consider bringing a torch to illuminate these internal parts of the temple for closer inspection. To visit Thommanon and other attractions in Siem Reap, use our Siem Reap vacation route planner.

  • Pilla between Angkor Thom and Ta Prohm, two indispensable in Angkor. The first day we stopped with the tuktuk. It's a small 12TH-century hindu Temple, located opposite the Chau Say Tevoda and dedicated to Shiva and Vishnu.

  • Nice small temple that mirror Chau Say Tevada opposite it. Worth a visit.
  • Nothing special here but if u pass by why not
  • Good
  • This is a small temple that you can see in about ten minutes or so. The most important features are not the overall design but the carved decorations. They are in a relatively good condition and give you a sense of how things would have looked at some of the less-preserved sites.
  • This is just a small temple but is still worth stoping.
