Thommanon, Siem Reap

4.1
Explore the World Heritage Site of Thommanon, an intricately rendered, stone Hindu temple nestled amid lush Cambodian nature. One of a pair of temples, this modestly sized site was constructed in the 12th century (during the reign of Suryavarman II), and is dedicated to the deities Shiva and Vishnu. A well-preserved example of ornate Khmer architecture, its lasting sandstone design is attributed to the builders' decision to construct using stone entirely, omitting the wooden supports that were used in other sites in the area. Look out for the carved statues of the divine female "Devatas" in abundance around the site, each displaying their own "mundra," or symbolic hand gesture, as well as ornately carved panels depicting various examples of Hindu lore. Consider bringing a torch to illuminate these internal parts of the temple for closer inspection. • It's not as popular as the other temples so it's quiet and less crowded. It's easy to access as it has no steep stairs. While visiting we saw some beautiful carvings on the walls.  more »

  • A small temple in comparison to the others but it is so peaceful and quiet making it a wonderful temple to relax and admire the intricate artwork on the towers. A wonderful temple to contemplate or just sit back and chill. The temple consists of several towers closed together so there is not much to walk.
  • Beautiful temple. Often quiet and had no issues with tourist crowds
  • Famous temples with faces carved into the walls. Amazing and beautiful. Can get a bit crowded at peak times.
  • Small temple to check out on your way to angkor thom.
  • I'm in love with this temple. Less tourists, so quiet, so much aura. This temple near with Angkor Thom.
