Ta Som, Siem Reap

4.5
Visit Ta Som, a small 12th century-temple in the ancient city of Angkor. Nestled in a wooded area, the temple dates back to the rule of the Khmer king Jayavarman VII. Enjoy the peaceful atmosphere of the temple, surrounded by a shady grove, and admire its stone ruins, adorned with intricate carvings and figurines. Nature has blended with the man-made structures of this ancient site, with one of the gopuram, or entrance walls, completely overgrown by a sacred fig tree, making for a great photo opportunity. • small temple not bad even if few maintained, beautiful pictures to do with the invasive nature, big advantage: there is little world.

  • Wandering through Ta Som, the most impressive feature is a HUGE tree to the back. Walk through the archway, and you will see a photo gallery of people, all waiting for you to get out of the way... LOL...  more »
  • Very nice place Ta SOM in ancient Angkor Wat! Nice nature around. Recommend for a picnic! Surely, surely you must see in Siem Reap

  • We were so lucky to experience it with just my friends since most of the tourists focus on the well known temples which makes it crowded. We were able enjoy the area without any photobombers. Plus the tree structure at the back looked amazing.
  • A beautiful small temple and not so popular among tourists... worth a visit
  • The main part of this temple wasn't particularly unique in any way (still beautiful & amazing though). However the entrance at the back had the most amazing sight out of everything I saw at the Angkor complex - the way the tree & its roots had completely grown over the doorway was simply stunning. It was so sensational I sat there for almost 15 minutes, just looking at it.
  • Small, classic Bayon-style monastic complex consisting of a relatively flat enclosure, face tower gopuras and cruciform interior sanctuaries much like a miniature version of Ta Prohm. Many of the carvings are in good condition and display particularly fine execution for late 12th century works. Take note of the devata carvings which show an uncommon individuality. A huge tree grows from the top of the eastern gopura. It is destroying the gate but it is a photo classic. Best photographed in the afternoon. Ta Som is the most distant temple on the Grand Circuit.
  • To fully experience this place's vibe you need to goo all the way to the eastern gate.
