Prasat Kravan, Siem Reap

3.9
#24 of 46 in Historic Sites in Siem Reap
Visit Prasat Kravan, which consists of five towers in a row, and admire the impressive bas-reliefs. Inspect the detail of the incredible brick carvings, as well as sculptures representing Vishnu and Laksmi. In the central tower, you can see more images of Vishnu, while looking for niches containing depictions of guardians. Next, visit the south and north towers, both of which are dedicated to Laksmi. As the French reconstructed the temple, they used bricks marked "CA," the sign of the Angkor Conservancy; keep an eye out for the mark as you wander the complex. Prasat Kravan is a temple from the 10th century which consists of five reddish brick towers on a common terrace, located in the South of the artificial lake or baray called Srah Srang. The site was cleared of vegetation in the 1930s by Henri Marchal and Georges Trouvè. After the towers were restored on Bernard Philippe Groslier from 1962 to 1966 initiative. The temple faces East and I surrounded by a small moat. Its exterior is striking for its classic lines and symmetry. The central tower and the South have superstructures that leverage the false perspective by simple means of decreasing levels. The Interior of the shrine are notable for the large representations in bas-relief of Vishnu and Lakshmi have been carved on the walls of reddish brick, connected by a vegetable compound. This type of sculptured artwork is quite common in the temples of Cham, but rare in Khmer of landmarks. Surprised this set of towers that at first glance seems a very simple project, but when it starts to travel details and captivating perspectives appear! Honestly, I loved it!... available, its views, its details, symbolism, his mystique! wonderful to photograph! See this temple if or if in your visit to Siem Reap!

Originally thought it was just a passing small site here, did not think less people, a few of us where concave according to the type, in the Sun, feeling better. Prasat Kravan, this name has a youthful mood, in fact, Chiang Hsun, the beauty of Angkor Wat is also recommended here, is absolutely not to be missed Oh

Peculiarity of this small site are the bas-reliefs on the bricks, inside the cells, which represent an unicum that is worth seeing.
