Meychrey Floating Village, Siem Reap

(1/5 based on 160+ reviews on the web)
Experience a unique way of life and learn about fishing communities at Meychrey Floating Village. This floating village sits on the edge of a man-made canal, with the residents relying mostly on fishing and tourism to get by. As you explore the river by boat, you’ll get a glimpse of everyday life on the stilted houses, as well as seeing a school packed full of studying students. Bird-watchers will also revel in the chance to spot an abundance of bird life while floating along the river. Sadly, due to the construction of dams upstream, global warming, and overfishing, the fish stocks are declining at an alarming rate, leading to high levels of poverty in the area. • A deferent place, but definitely must see. Better to go in time of monson to see the real essence of the floating city. Many children, smiling people, lot of poverty but still all smile at you. What I recommend as visit obliged.

  • Always nice to see these buildings on stilts, planned to be easily displaced... and great photos during the round trip in boat. Some places are a little "dirty" (waste various and spoiled). For as it is a tourist activity, which allows to see even when important life in Cambodia. It is indeed the foster Lake of the country. Explanation on the Tonle Sap (River and Lake) and these floating villages. At the end of the rainy season, the lake level is (or should be; in 2015. for example, the level remained low, which has extremely affected this fragile economy) very high. The water of the Mekong River flows into the Lake during the rainy season (May to October); the water goes up the river. The Lake fills. The season dry (supplement in months), the river debits in a good way...
