Mekong Quilts, Siem Reap

4.8
Mekong Quilts offers responsibly sourced goods made by the communities it helps to reinvigorate and support. Established in 1994 by three friends, the idea behind the organization was to teach Vietnamese women how to make quilts. After its roaring success, these quilts can now be found all over the country, will all profits funding social development in rural Vietnam and Cambodia and managed by fellow NGOs Thiện Chí & Anh Dương. Look for a souvenir or gift to take home from your trip, secure in the knowledge that your purchase helps the people and infrastucture of the country. • Shopping with a difference: the social difference. Their products are very well finished and they have a rest sense of style for all decorations. Indigo dyed products were my favourites but don't miss those items with materials from ethnic tribes from the north of the Mekong delta. This business promotes women empowerment by giving them the opportunity of employment that otherwise wouldn't happen. I love the philosophy behind it as well as their end products.
