Eastern Mebon, Siem Reap
(4.3/5 based on 240+ reviews on the web)
One of the best-preserved temples in the Angkor city and part of a World Heritage Site, Eastern Mebon attracts visitors with its well-preserved elephant statues and five cone-shaped pillars. Climb the four stairways guarded by the picturesque elephants and admire the stone carvings of verses from Hindu mythology and historical scripts. While the whole complex honors Shiva and the parents of the king Rajendravarman II, the small altars inside the pillars are dedicated to other Hindu deities. Along with the exquisite examples of architecture, the temple stands out for its use of red brick made from iron-rich clay. Put Eastern Mebon into our Siem Reap vacation builder and find out what's close by, where to stay, and where to head next.

  • We really enjoyed visiting this temple. With fewer crowds than some of the others, it was easy to have a good look around and get plenty of great photos. The combination of sandstone and brick constru...  more »
  • I loved the stone elephants. This is well worth a short visit. Easy touring and not too strenuous as compared to other temples.
  • We visited too many temple on one day and all almost look the same at the end of the tour. This temple is ordinary so nothing was attracting our interest.

  • We came here over 2 hours early because we heard sunset here is so mobbed. Sunset ended up being very underwhelming but this was still a nice structure to climb.
  • Our tour guide suggest us to see the sunset here as other more famous locations will be super crowded and you need to queue. Though the sunset here is not very impressive. It is however a good place to chill and relax while you are waiting for the sunset.
  • Not comparable to other temples but the elephants are well preserved.
  • What can I say? We enjoyed all the temples, this was part of the large circuit.
