Banteay Srey Butterfly Centre, Siem Reap
(3.9/5 based on 280+ reviews on the web)
Meet Cambodia’s indigenous butterfly species at Banteay Srey Butterfly Centre, a poverty mitigation project helping both the butterflies and the local community. One of the largest of its kind in Southeast Asia, the enclosure houses some 30 species of butterfly, many bred in the center’s sustainable farm, where locals are trained to harvest the delicate insects. Meander through netted enclosures amid dense tropical foliage, catching sight of many species, including the Lime butterfly, Atlas Moth and Peacock Pansy butterfly. At the farm, meet the locals and learn about the life cycle from caterpillar to cocoon, keeping your eyes peeled for the rare sight of a hatching butterfly. • to see by making a break on the road to Banteay Srei. An initiative that allows to live several close to the laentours and offers an indispensable income for many farmers in the area who collect the cocoons. Go with Angkor Dorn Drivers. Dorn will also show you a village nearby, where they make Palm sugar, excellent for health.
