Banteay Srey Butterfly Centre, Siem Reap
Categories: Wildlife Areas, Nature & Parks
Meet Cambodia’s indigenous butterfly species at Banteay Srey Butterfly Centre, a poverty mitigation project helping both the butterflies and the local community. One of the largest of its kind in Southeast Asia, the enclosure houses some 30 species of butterfly, many bred in the center’s sustainable farm, where locals are trained to harvest the delicate insects. Meander through netted enclosures amid dense tropical foliage, catching sight of many species, including the Lime butterfly, Atlas Moth and Peacock Pansy butterfly. At the farm, meet the locals and learn about the life cycle from caterpillar to cocoon, keeping your eyes peeled for the rare sight of a hatching butterfly.
