Inspect the cultural heritage of the Khmer Empire's golden era at Angkor National Museum. Opened in 2007, the museum houses a vast collection of relics that portray the ancient civilization's legends and art. The exterior may look a bit mall-like, but the museum's many galleries brim with splendor sure to impress hard-core history buffs. Inside the exhibit halls, you can examine informative displays about Angkor Wat, the rise of the Khmer Empire, and the influence of Buddhism on the local people. The museum prohibits photography and offers discounted tickets for the youngest visitors. Visited the museum before visiting the temples. It was a great introduction to the history and some of the meaning behind the various statues/carvings you then see at the temples. All information is p...  more »

Angkor Wat, you can learn more about the history of the dynasty at that time and religion. Around the room while listening to the audio guide of Japan. It took about 3 hours so I slowly turned. I thought I had gone before to visit the Angkor Wat ruins.

Perfect for preparation before using the hot midday hours, visit the Angkor Wat. You can know the history of Japan-language audio guide or pamphlet is horrendous. There is interest and a close look at time, because if I didn't, I walked. After visiting Angkor Wat with understandable relief, such as it is. Next to the Museum shop and there, next to duty free shop shopping convenient.

A very informative museum about the history of the region, it's religion, and the significance behind the temple complexes that were built. Definitely a good place to go before you visit Angkor Wat or any of the other temples in the area. Admission is $12 so make sure you bring some money with you.

Great museum, we did the speaking tour as we didn't have much time and thought it might help us speed up but we still took 3 hours to look around here, which could have easily been a full day had we the time! We decided to go before visiting the temples which was great as we had some understanding of what we went to see. Definitely think this place is worth the visit although the speaking tour isn't that necessary as everything is very well explained throughout the museum.

Well maintained museum of Angkor. Great place to learn about history of Angkor sculptures and architecture. Must visit if you are in Siem Reap!

Nice museum with 8 galleries about the Khmer empire. The ticket prices are 12$ and 5$ extra for the audio guide. Each gallery has a short introductory film summarising the most important exhibits. Catch that if you don't have a lot of time to visit. The galleries I remember are the ones about Buddha Statues, Khmer Kings, Apsara Statues, Angkor Wat and religions during Khmer period. It'll take 3-4 hrs to see everything if you're the kind of person interested in details. Each gallery has at least one exquisite sculptor. The museum shop is quite expensive.

A fascinating story, worth visiting before you go to Angkor so our better understand the history. Some amazing pieces on display that show the skills of teaching Khmer people in the past.
