Angkor National Museum, Siem Reap

4.1
#2 of 17 in Museums in Siem Reap
Inspect the cultural heritage of the Khmer Empire's golden era at Angkor National Museum. Opened in 2007, the museum houses a vast collection of relics that portray the ancient civilization's legends and art. The exterior may look a bit mall-like, but the museum's many galleries brim with splendor sure to impress hard-core history buffs. Inside the exhibit halls, you can examine informative displays about Angkor Wat, the rise of the Khmer Empire, and the influence of Buddhism on the local people. The museum prohibits photography and offers discounted tickets for the youngest visitors. • We visited this museum before heading out to the Angkor archaeological park, and are very glad we did! It provided the historic, cultural and religious background we needed to understand a lot of what...  more »

  • It is a fine museum about Cambodia religion, but a very focused and small museum. Some Hindu Buddhism knowledge or some homework would make your visit more interesting. Do not spend time looking for Gallery B on the second floor. Hard to find it. Enter the door of "Gallery A - Khmer Civilization"", just less than 10 steps on your left it starts the ""Gallery B - Religion and belief." It doesn't have its own door as the other galleries have. So no need spend time looking for this gallary, you won't find it. It is in the Gallery A or part of Gallery A.
  • Amazing!!! Real statutes of Buddha and Real Khmer Art. It's not just the museum of picture or painting, it's the stock of Khmer ancient art properties. They have videos introduction in many languages and also audio for each room. The museum was very well built and designed. It's worth to vist just $3 for adult and $1.50 for Children (Cambodian Only). On national holidays, they may discount. Highly recommend!!
  • USD 12 for adult, USD 6 for children... no pictures or videos allowed inside... If you never been in a Hindu-Buddhist museum... is good to visit! Although the collection is very good... I didn’t feel the connection with the temples... I would prefer to have the feeling of treasures and what was happening on that time... other to see the same sculptures from the temples... Better to just see it at my visit at the temple...
  • Visited in September 2017. Entry fee was $12. Very nice building, excellent layout of numerous artifacts and information. We spent 2.5 hours, casually going through the nicely laid out museum (without the optional audio guide). Highly recommend!
  • For a preparation before visit the temples with the tour guide. It would be good to come here to have an overview about the history of the Khmer. It is big, you need time to read all.
