Russian Market, Phnom Penh

3.1
Indulge in a shopping frenzy at Russian Market, Phnom Penh’s large discount retail area. Countless stalls, small shops, and food outlets will make you dizzy as you browse through cotton and silk clothing items, multicolored trinkets, or handicrafts suspended from the ceiling. A variety of fresh seafood, produce and spices, and a wide selection of motorbike spare parts offer something for anyone’s taste. Referred to as Russian by foreigners because of the dominance of Soviets here in the 1980s, the market has since evolved into a truly global retail outlet. • Not quite the bargain basement market of yesteryear, but if one is prepared to haggle there are still some extraordinary offerings out there. The stores are still immured in their little lanes and the ...  more »

  • Good food, good pictures to take. It is crowded and stuffy in some parts, and you'll probably run into many other tourists. I personally love markets and the food part of this one provided excellent photo shot opportunities. On a sunny day, look up and see the air vents spinning, creating rays of light coming in regularly and moving around, almost like in a night club! Walk around, bargain for your items (sellers want to sell, if you pretend to walk away they will probably agree with your price). Be careful on hot days and don't forget to hydrate!
  • Known as Toul Tom Pong Market, the former of Russian Market where you can buy all kind of foods and vegetables, whole sales of cloths and kid cloths. Very popular for traveller who wish to buy cloths. The market open from 8 morning until 6 evening and it also has a small wet market from 5 evening until 10 evening at the side of market as well. And also has the street foods and dessert selling around the market at night time. Bars and Pubs also there!
  • Hot and humid, like most of the country 😉 but not too bad. Plenty of items for sale. From pens and pencils to motorbike parts, and every t-shirt and trinket in between. The food section can be a bit of an assault on the senses, so I steered clear of that area. Good location to buy a few souvenirs and kill a few hours.
  • No air to breath. The place is so suffocating. Is carried the Russian Market. The selection of goods are good, the quality is reasonable. There exist a bargain strategy. Only few shops have high quality goods. May be the a grade replica Cloths are the best buy here
  • A bit much to bother navigating but I walked through all the clothing area specifically to get to the side street where the fruit and veggies are sold. A great variety but as a vegan would feel much more comfortable without all the chunks of dead animal flesh and petrified dead birds which I had to quickly turn away from. I don't know what else is available here but Vibe Vegan Cafe is 2 minutes walk away in Street 446
