Phnom Chisor Temple, Phnom Penh
(3.8/5 based on 160 reviews on the web)
Let Phnom Chisor Temple carry you into the past. The 11th century temple stands partially in ruins, made of laterite and carved sandstone bricks, but it was once a great shrine built by king Suryavarman I dedicated to Shiva and Vishnu. Visit the modern pagoda surrounding the main temple sitting on the east side of the hill and see the art monks and pilgrims worship. Mythological scenes cover the walls, but the gold statue of Muchalinda--who has seven heads sheltering Buddha--stands as the main attraction. Learn about the history of Buddhism while you absorb the peaceful atmosphere around the temple. For travelers who use our international travel planner, Phnom Penh holidays become easier to arrange, with trips to the Phnom Chisor Temple and other attractions mapped out and timetabled.

  • I can't remember how many steps there are to get to the top but it's lots. However it's well worth the effort as not only are the views spectacular, but the ancient ruins at the top are fascinating.
  • We decided to go to Tonle Bati and Phnom Chisor after exhausting what PP had to offer. While we did not enjoy the visit of the Tonle Bati temple, we really thought that Phnom Chisor was worth the two-...  more »
