Phnom Chisor Mountain Temple, Phnom Penh

4.1
#5 of 10 in Historic Sites in Phnom Penh
Religious Site Tourist Spot
Let Phnom Chisor Mountain Temple carry you into the past. The 11th century temple stands partially in ruins, made of laterite and carved sandstone bricks, but it was once a great shrine built by king Suryavarman I dedicated to Shiva and Vishnu. Visit the modern pagoda surrounding the main temple sitting on the east side of the hill and see the art monks and pilgrims worship. Mythological scenes cover the walls, but the gold statue of Muchalinda--who has seven heads sheltering Buddha--stands as the main attraction. Learn about the history of Buddhism while you absorb the peaceful atmosphere around the temple. For travelers who use our international travel planner, Phnom Penh holidays become easier to arrange, with trips to the Phnom Chisor Mountain Temple and other attractions mapped out and timetabled.

  • We were a group if 7 people and we hired 2 tuktuks to take us from the city and back. It cost us $12 each (tuktuk) + $1 each for entrance fees. I think it was the cheapest way. The temple itself offer...  more »

  • If you craving for Angkor Wat, this is the mini version. It's not worth paying $37 to visit Angkor Wat. [Update: 28 May 2017] This place is another money sucker, $2 entry for foreigner. Compared to Ayuthaya (Thailand), which is FOC. Make your own choice! For me, I will not go to Chisor.
  • Amazing place, very high, actually, 402 meters, but suffering of littering. Kids from bottom school coming everything for selfish and littering. But temple has some unique details what you cant find in Angkor area.
  • It's beautiful and very important for Cambodia
  • There is a reasonable hike up to the top. Once there, do visit the temple ruins. While they are not angkorwat, they do give glimpse of it.
  • Good place to get fresh air and enjoy ancient temple
