Koh Tonsay (Rabbit Island), Kep

#2 of 7 in Parks in Kep
Swing in a hammock under a palm tree shade in Koh Tonsay (Rabbit Island), a tiny rustic 2 sq km (0.77 sq mi) island lying only 4 km (2 mi) off Kep. Its sandy, rock-studded stretches make a popular low-budget getaway, refreshingly free of electricity and motor vehicles. Come here for some peaceful swimming, or explore the excellent snorkeling and diving opportunities among the many coral reefs. If you've worked up an appetite, check out the fresh seafood eateries on the island's longest beach. Fishermen and cowherds run accommodations, some in wooden thatched houses built by convicts during the 1970s. Hired boats run regularly to the island from Kep. • We took a share boat across $US8 each (purchased by our tuk tuk driver who probably got a commission). Boats are fine for a calm weather crossing, not being much of a sailor not sure if I would go in ...  more »
  • The people on this island, as all Cambodians are, are lovely, but the pollution and waste on the beaches is very distressing. No pristine sands here, but plastics strewn everywhere. It made us feel gu...  more »
  • Almost empty when we were there, of many bar/restaurant to spend the day. The main beach is clean and pretty. A trail allows you to walk on the side and look for more isolated corners, but they are often also very dirty (waste etc.). Accessible by boat to the day: departure around 9: 00, return around 4 pm.

  • I loved every minute of it. There's no better inexpensive place to relax than Rabbit Island. I wasn't in the best accomodation, the bathroom was really terrible, as we're the rock hard pillows, but I still had an awesomely relaxing time in the hammocks literally on the beach. Very inexpensive meals & drinks too. A great place to visit, & I'll be back soon.
  • Don't spread the word.. this is a little paradise. Very simple and perfect to relax. Enjoy a barbecue on the beach, swim and chill-out.
  • Nice small island to stay a few days, reading a book. Bungalows start at US 5, clear water and deckchairs along the beach.
  • Very nice Island
  • A great island for the day. Take a walk around the island takes S few hours. Path not clear in places but good fun. It is a bit of a party island with lots of sunburnt bodies but for a day trip it is great. Food reasonably priced. Boats really well organised. A lot of rubbish around the edges of the island the only negative.
