Kep Crab Market, Kep

(3.8/5 based on 300+ reviews on the web)
At Kep Crab Market, nestled right up against the seashore, the fishermen come to sell fresh crabs caught using wooden traps. Most of the action takes place on the beach overlooking the ocean full of small boats, while small improvised shacks in the background sell local meals, vegetables, fruits, and spices. Adjacent to the market, find an array of wooden restaurants on stilts. Enjoy fresh seafood, including snapper, tuna, river fish, calamari, and the famous blue pepper crab. As well as local specialties, many of the restaurants also serve international cuisine. Finish off the day with a glass of wine and a view of the sun setting over the endless horizon. • .. .a bit pricey for eating. As often in Asia, you would think that crustaceans are less expensive in the port but once more: No. Then for more affordable cuisine, it is better to go on the sea front.

  • Go to test the crab. They keep them in baskets in the sea. 1 kg of crabs living $ 5, $ 2.5 for voules make cook with pepper green and other, $ 0.25 a good portion of rice for 2. Personally we haven't eaten on the market, you need to consume to settle on the tables and $ 1 the bobbin it is much too expensive for labas... by the sea is a lot more pleasant. Attention to the monkeys who are not afraid to tax you :-)

  • I do not understand the good reviews on this area. The crabs are undersized - you need huge amounts of them to get a feed. In Australia we throw the small ones back - this does not happen in this coun...  more »

  • Some small shack like restaurants on the water serving extremely fresh crab. I had crab stir fried with a sweet smoky chili sauce with locally produced fresh peppercorns. Really amazing flavor. One of the best dishes I have had in Asia.
  • Market. If you want a fresh seafood in Kep, let's come here. But remember, if you are a barang, this is so expensive market.
  • Love it. Seeing the culture of selling crabs and cook it on the spot. The environments are so natural and just lovely.
  • It is very bad unhygienic place. Rats are running around. The market is more smoke then fresh air. Nothing special on it. If you want food, look for restaurants around plenty with good food, and same price.
  • True local fishermen delivering fresh produce to be cooked on site. Terrific way to experience the fishing industry up close.
