Kep Crab Market, Kep

3.8
#4 of 20 in Things to do in Kep
At Kep Crab Market, nestled right up against the seashore, the fishermen come to sell fresh crabs caught using wooden traps. Most of the action takes place on the beach overlooking the ocean full of small boats, while small improvised shacks in the background sell local meals, vegetables, fruits, and spices. Adjacent to the market, find an array of wooden restaurants on stilts. Enjoy fresh seafood, including snapper, tuna, river fish, calamari, and the famous blue pepper crab. As well as local specialties, many of the restaurants also serve international cuisine. Finish off the day with a glass of wine and a view of the sun setting over the endless horizon. • After reading so many positive reports I was looking forward to visiting the crab market. I found it highly overrated. By Australian standards this is expensive, second-class seafood. For example, san...  more »
  • Came to Kep Crab Market on a tour not to buy crabs but just look around. Lots of fresh seafood, vegetables, fruit and cooked food. Also souvenirs. Very interesting.  more »

  • Amazing local experience! Fresh out of the ocean crab! 7$/kg not cooked, 10$/kg cooked. Eat it right on the peer cooked. A number of local shops. All seem to be the same price. The squid and shrimp/prawns where also great! Definitely recommend.
  • Overfishing is a real problem in Cambodia and as much as I love seeing the locals make a living out of catching these wonderful crustaceans it's important that they go out a little bit further and make their practice more environmentally sustainable. Sure, come here for the cultural experience but purchase your seafood somewhere else.
  • The best place in town for sea food. I really like this market. Be aware for the price as it is very from store to store for the same product type. Also, keep in mind about the total weight of your sea food as it might be not 100% accurate as shown in the traders’ scale.
  • Fresh seafood sold on the docks. Traders there who can cook anything you bought right then and there, with tables and chairs where you can eat it. Popular with tourists.
  • Pretty interesting place to walk-around and experience. Lots of fresh tasty seafood to be eaten. Can get fresh cooked crab right on the pier. Just ask the ladies and they will pull the cream traps out of the water for you to choose.
