Wat Banan Temple, Battambang
(3.9/5 based on 280+ reviews on the web)
Perched atop a hill looking over the Sanker River, Wat Banan Temple provides a secluded encounter with an ancient Angkor temple. Climb up nearly 400 steep cobbled steps, reaching five monumental towers consecrated as a Buddhist shrine, thought to have been built sometime between the 10th and 13th centuries. Search for the few remaining carvings, best preserved on the central tower, depicting female spirits of the clouds and praying figures. On reaching the bottom of the hill, numerous food and drinks vendors greet you with welcome refreshments. A visit to Wat Banan Temple represents just the start of the adventure when you use our Battambang trip builder to plot your vacation.

  • The temple is beautiful, et get 300 and a few steps. However after angkor or other this last is far from impressive and this visit very soon. The setting is beautiful. The most significant remains the tuktuk ride in the countryside of battambang, so beautiful and authentic, I let you map of our tuktuk with whom we spent the day was absolutely exellent. Our most beautiful meeting after 2 months of road trip. He will tell you the Red Khmer or the history of battambang. Great before Phnom phen.

  • This place is located at the top of an accessible cline by the steps many, high and narrow which makes the climb difficult and challenging in the heat. The temples are in poor condition but interesting.

  • I can get pretty overwhelming to see all the fabulous ruins and temple's in Siem Reip. I did find these very pleasing, the day I went there were less people. It was late in the afternoon. The history ...  more »

  • Very interested temple
  • I'm about 11km from the temple. it's on the Banon mountain.
  • About 20 kilometres out of town, Banan Temple is a good example of the Khmer architecture that this region is well known for. It was built in the eleventh century and involves a long climb to the top up a steep staircase. It’s quite small at the top but has great views of the surrounding area.
  • Near my house and amazing place.
  • Simple temple, but worth trying to climb up
